What's coming in 1.0.6?
the thingg is that are ways, of still supporting the other minions other than skelies wich can be more mana eficient. and what about groups? many summoners play solo i know, but on this game you wont go far. the higher your nr of minions the more inconvenient you become. but while on groups you might not need skellies, you would be left with sockets wich could be used with sumthing more beneficial, but again that same thing would probably be more beneficial solo aswell. ligtning skills to spread shock, cold to chill/freze? give those blind and you have the same efect.

" I hear that summoners are bad for leveling a lot but I didn't really seem to have any real issue other than Dominus on Merciless is pretty much impossible solo wise. I mean, gear wise I really didn't worry about much of anything, wasn't even resistance capped without purity aura when I finished with her for the time being at level 67 with less than 2k life and with only 592 shield. True, I did get lucky and had a summoner neck and boots drop but following Rathik2's guide made it a cinch. I will say, that it can be a bit slow going though, you really have to be cautious about running into a room head first. Usually best to let the skeletons scout ahead. Also, one change I would make to the guide, though, would be to head straight for Minion Instability. That way, should you lose all your zombies and specters, you just spam skellys and let them blow up. ;) And to GGG, YOU GUYS ROCK! |

As my main is currently a summoner, I like the sound of this update.
I'm hoping at least one of these new gems is a minion-related trigger gem. That would be neat. |

" I had a similar experience. I find that in my level 70s I'm much slower at killing and more prone to dying than the whole time I leveled. I felt like the summoner route was OP for leveling. I, admittedly, have quality spectres, skeletons and zombies out of the gate, with Sidhebreath, Bones of Ullr and Queen's Decree ready to equip right away, but that was the reason I chose to go summoner, is because I had already found all the gear for it. Every time I faced Piety in the Mausoleum I killed her before her teleport went off and I laughed at how completely overpowered the summoner was. The only reason I can perceive why anyone would think that summoners suck for leveling is because you have to resummon pretty often due to their lower life. But it's lower overall casts than people who have to click multiple times to kill monsters with attacks, so I don't know what the issue is. I think it's a perception thing... |

Having leveled an untwinked summoner, entirely self-found, I'll say that the experience was a pretty intense rollercoaster in terms of fun and performance.
Normal, especially, was probably the least fun I had in the game with any build. Cruel was mostly fun (until the second half of act3), and merciless started out really fun and then got progressively less fun (in act3; just too many mobs that one-hit all minions with little that can be done). The main issue is how late zombies get resists from the skill gem. 18 is just way too late. I'm glad to see "progression changes" listed, which might tackle this issue. Minion survivability needs to be more consistent so that it's not always just one of two extremes (minions never dying in some areas, or when high enough, or minions getting wiped out completely). | |
Love the focus on the Summoner class.
<P> Just need more keybinds to allow for the spells I can cast. It would be a convenience. |
