[1.xx] Islidox's Build tips/critique section for Rangers
" I don't see necessity to stop lvling gems meaningly. Increasing mana cost of a skill less significant to raising bonuses. So only three factors stop me from lvling skill gems: 1. My lvl 2. My attributives 3. My needs (I keep lvling gems on swap, there I have 2 rapiers with 3 green sockets each, but on main screen only gems to kill mobs). " As I understood from Islidox ideas and builds: 1. Build up your defense 2. Build up your offense 3. Build up your fuel Blood magic is your fuel. Don't matter which skills you'll be using, the matter how you can support them. I'd say more costly skills you use - more life leech / life on hit / life on kill you should have. Same with mana: more costly skills you use, more mana pool needed, more mana regen needed. What are the downsides of going phys bow over ele bow? Seems like just about everyone is going the ele route.

" Damage type is a long-term commitment you need to make. It seems that both damage types are fairly equal in current open beta. I'm physical ranger build, who is fairly happy with its performance. I can not compare physical ranger to elemental one because I did not get one high enough in closed beta. My experience is that elemental builds are more accessible early because elemental mods are very numerous on weapons and other piece of gear (rings, necks, quivers). VictorDoom has posted nice thread about physical ranger, where he give very useful tips. He stated that both elemental and physical damage builds are now equal in end-game since lots of weapons were upgraded in terms of physical damage in 0.10 patch. |

I'd bet my money that my phys build will outdps ele, but you will need expensive gear for completing it.

I'm planning a bow ranger.
Which gems to get from each quest in Act1? How do i handle mobs? |

" List of rewards: http://en.pathofexilewiki.com/wiki/Quest_Rewards Bow user: Burning arrow (single normal target), Split Arrow (multiple targets), Poison Arrow (single tough target), Rain of Arrows (AOE) or Ice Shot and so on. Meaning how to handle mobs? They run too fast, it is hard to kill them, they hurt hard? Any specific location? " yeah, if they outrun me. no specific location. i guess i have to stand there, soak up the dmg while launching rain of arrows at my feet? ahh.. ice shot = witches ice spear? which is better? Forked ice shot or split arrow with added cold dmg gem? and more importantly, how do i handle chaos dmg later on? just tank up and add hp nodes? Last edited by Pi314#5955 on Jan 31, 2013, 10:16:29 AM

Im new to these kind of games and I was hoping to follow your elemental ranger build to learn the game then when im confident I can either make a new ranger and try my own build or play another role.
My question is with this build what spells should I be using gem wise. Im running through normal and im doign fine spamming poison arrow and rain of arrows but im guessing just aoe'ing everything down isn't going to cut it once I get into a harder difficulty. Also I just completed silks quest what support gems should I have in relation to my normals sorry for all the questions like I said I want to play it properly :p Last edited by Hummy#2423 on Jan 31, 2013, 2:14:56 PM

Thanks for your reply earlier Islidox.
As I said I've been basing my build off your Frenzy 2, but I've had some ideas as I've been playing through it as where to go to now to finish it off. I'm currently on level 47 and haven't dipped into many damage nodes yet but I will have to lock in my final build soon. Frenzy Based Elemental My main attacks are frenzy for single target, and rain of arrows for AoE, with a bit of poison arrow thrown in to spread some DoTs around. I really like iron grip as a key stone and even with my small ammount of strength it adds more physical damage than any other node (~48% with this strength). The main question I have with the build is if it is worth spreading to the elemental damage nodes. They seem very valuable adding 10% each, and even though I plan on getting most of my damage from physical skills, apparently with all the great elemental bonuses on items it ends up coming out ahead. I'm wondering if it's still viable to have this mix of physical and elemental increases, or if it is better to just go for all one or the other? Keep in mind I'm pretty attached to frenzy, but am willing to part from RoA to another AOE such as Lightning or Split arrow. Also if I go this more elemental route is it still worth taking heavy draw? Maybe changing the heavy draw nodes to the Golem's blood nodes to get even more life? Thanks for your feedback. EDIT: My other idea has sticking with physical but focusing more on the crit nodes. Frenzy with crit Last edited by Lankycheese#3476 on Jan 31, 2013, 6:35:50 PM
