How well do GGG really understand the mechanics of their own game?

Mostly true, except for ignites which do not originate from crits, but from chance to ignite. I'm not sure what the "Effectiveness" in there is. If it's damage effectiveness, then it has no business being there. It should be part of a (Modifiers of base damage, e.g. added lightning/cold * Effectiveness)

i have critmultiplier in there because it increases the damage of the crit that causes the ignite. The Base Firedamage in my formular is just the Basedamage from a Spell(for example 372 on fireball)

some spells have effectiveness(arc) so i put it in there as well

you can read the formular like this as well:

Ignite Damage = [Damage of Ignite causing crit] * (conc effect*oMddmod) * (inc Firedamage+oIddmod)

oMddmod means: "other More doubledipping modifiers"
oIddmod means: "other Increased doubledipping modifiers"

but one cant see the x^2 scaling nature of the formular that easy then

havent put in modifiers that only apply to Ignite damage because its harder to see the x^2 nature as well that way. So lets assume no inc/more burndamage is used^^
ING: "MeneaterMildrid" or "WICKEDSICKmoves"
You missed both my points. Crits aren't the only source of ignites. Damage effectiveness only applies to the base damage, and is already factored in the tooltip of spells, so in practice, it only modifies added X.
Daniel..... I will trade my left and possibly right kahunas for an in game combat text..... it would be really nice to know what is going on and what happened. Why would this be such a hard thing to implement? Are there numbers you just dont want us to see?

No, the reason is simple: They are retarded. Imo they just dont fit in this game, better get a korean mmorpg for it.

If you mean a little Baldurs gate like combat log, that would be quite neet.

(Also i remember they said they tested it internally and it was literally "retarded", the dmg numbers i mean)

GGG don't want floating damage numbers because they look dumb. Also because they think sheeple will think they get an advantage from using them, when really GGG thinks they won't.
Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

never said flaoting combat text...a combat log................so u can see what did what and what does what.

There are things in this game that smack of a bad korean MMORPG far more than damage numbers and some other optional utility stuff would. I remember back when people unloaded all kinds of shit on health bars and nowadays you are hard pressed to find people not using them.

If devs think they offer no advantage whatsoever why not make them a microtransaction? I'm 100% positive they'd sell like hot cakes.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

I believe that they do understand the mechanics however they constantly miss how some changes either do or don't behave with certain effects. The reason would be either there is so many exceptions in their code that they end up with what is called spaghetti code or they are disorganized to the point where they have to have others point out that certain skills/effects should be included based on the definition.

The disorganized part is easily corrected after they admit it however if it turns out to be spaghetti code that would require a major rewrite.
