[1.0.x - NEM/HC] The Dreidel - The Spinning Budget Duelist
Hi everyone, I made this build with some inspiration from other duelist spinning builds. The only issue with their build was: the price. Their builds relied on bringer of rains (7+ ex) and expensive shields. I decided,to hell with it, I'm going self-found and whatever gear I find I'm going to use (until I find a bringer myself of course!). I've been able to solo 70-71 maps with relative ease. ○ Pros: " ○ Cons: " ○ Gems/Linking: " ○ Bandit Rewards: " ○ Leveling: " ○ Skill tree: " ○ Frequently Asked Questions 1. How come you aren't using Facebreakers?
Spoiler
• I have 3 pairs in my stash. I think they're boring, and using a Bringer of Rain & Facebreakers means that your Double Strike damage will take a hit - cyclone is a very strong ability - but double strike is better for fighting single monsters (i.e. rares, uniques, bosses) especially in no regeneration maps. Each time you cast cyclone, around 240 of your health goes away. That means you need to hit your target 6 times in order to get that amount of health back (level 18 life gain on hit). You're probably not going to hit that 1 single target for 6 times, and you'll actually be losing life. Double strike with Multistrike and Life Leech linked lets you afk click single targets (bosses especially). 2. How come you have Unwavering Stance in your tree? Cyclone prevents you from being stunned?
Spoiler
• Desync can happen at any time, and it can happen anywhere. This build was creating for surviving through Nemesis, where anything can kill you (SURPRISE!). There's been times where I lose half of my half just because 4-5 desynced skeleton rhoas charge me from half the map away. I'd rather not take the chance. When you do get a Bringer of Rain, then maybe it's worth speccing out of Unwavering Stance as it does not stack with the Blind. 3. Concentrated Effect is causing lots of desync and I don't like how it reduces my AOE. What do I do?
Spoiler
• I had this issue too. Took me about a night to solve it! You get 12% increased AOE from the skill-tree, and concentrated effect reduces AOE by 30%. 30% - 12% = 18% reduced AOE. Quality whirlwind gives 1% Increased AOE for each % quality. This means you need 18% Quality on your whirlwind gem. It's not really expensive, they're like 4-5 chaos, and you'll only need it when you get a 5 socket to use Concentrated Effect. ○ Testimonials: " Last edited by Mallet#2138 on Dec 18, 2013, 12:49:26 PM

Are you running this in nemesis/hardcore?

With apologies to the OP,
"Funny, he doesn't look duelist." |

Do you think this build will work, if I start from Scion? I just love her lore/model more, and with almost the same nodes, she'll have 3 less Dex, 17 more Str and 24 less Int, that is not that big, as you use BM gem for Cyclone anyway.
And it would be nice to see your gear, and suggestions for it (I get the general idea, but it still would be helpful to see that information). And would it work with IR and armour/ER equipment? I mean, usually if you see Grace in the build, there's IR node, too. Wouldn't it be better to use Determination/Vitality instead? Last edited by mikerelf#2386 on Nov 18, 2013, 6:07:01 PM

My wife and I are running Cyclone duelists together. They kick ass. Call ourselves the Twinados. We can clear The Docks in Merciless in 5minutes. However, we use two 1-handed swords. Survivability is not a problem though. Currently at level 66, we have 3.3k hp, about 5k armor and max resist (except chaos, which sucks). In the end, it's LGoH + Cyclone that keeps us alive.
If you're interested, here's the passive tree we are aiming to use: http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgQBAecDhwSxBS0GohDwFCAUcRR1F9wa2xuqG60b-h3KI_Yl3ydPJ9UotSjbMZ4yCTSTNZI26DiWOlI6cTrhOu1AoEGqR35KfUrITGBN404qUEdT31YEVvpYr1jbWkhbr2BLYIhhUmNwZU1noGxGbUpuaW6qcHJybHRBdO14DXrvgTqE2YTvhmCHdojtiPGVZpkrm4OeuaQZplenMKluq8WsWa-itfK2QbcXvYG-p8APxFjSTdN-3Q3fv9_v52PuDu9O7-Pv8PGK8kX3vvzF_gr-jw== |

" Yep this is Nemesis, Shouldve added it in to the title... would've gotten alot more attention. " Reference? :) " TBH if you've already made the the tree, and you're able to get the same important nodes (life regen, aoe damage, IR/unwavering etc.) then go for it. You can just get those stats from items. IR is a must for hardcore!!! At level 20, grace gives you a nice flat 2016 evasion ration -> armor, whereas determination gives you 50%. Maybe late game I'll switch to determ. As for gear, it's basically the only "bottleneck" for this build. Yes, my gear isn't that good, but I can still run 68-69 maps solo with little to no difficulty. (My helmet is complete garbage, just the resistances it gives are insane and help me max out, I'm too lazy to search for a replacement) The most important thing about this build.. is your flasks. GRANITE FLASKS ARE A MUST!!! Especially a granite with +armor mod. It helps ALOT vs vulnerability mobs. " Checking out your build, it looks alright for a first time build in softcare/standard. For hardcore/nemesis, it's a much different story. Issues I have is that you chose the blood magic node, which won't let you run any auras (or forces you to run them on life, which is a no-no) Last edited by Mallet#2138 on Nov 19, 2013, 1:07:44 AM

I was just confused, you don't have IR in your skill tree, that's why I asked about it.
As for other things- thanks for answers, I'm going to play this build, and I think I'll enjoy it a lot ^^. |

" Sorry, I guess I must've missed out on a few nodes! Check it now, should be good to go! Also, sorry for the late response! PS One of the reasons I got those int nodes was because of the int requirement for cast on damage taken! Last edited by Mallet#2138 on Nov 19, 2013, 1:38:20 AM

" Space Balls, Jewish general comment: Funny she / he doesn't look Druish / Jewish. RE: The Dreidel is a Hebrew toy, or at least in origin. That said, I do like the build you're making. Last edited by Malpheas#7617 on Nov 19, 2013, 1:42:09 AM
