I know why they want to call it expansion (new hype for the game, new customers), but it doesnt make that term correct.
An expansion implies that you can decide to play the original version without using the expansion.
This is hardly going to be the case for PoE. There is only going to be one version, which is getting a content update.

Its a content update, and regardless of how big that content update is, calling it expansion is wrong unless you can play the original version without tapping into the expansion.

WoW vanilla can still be played individually. Burning crusade can still be played individually. Diablo 2 can still be played individually. Diablo 2 - LoD can still be played individually.
Thats what expansions are. They expand upon the original game, but you can also decide to play just the original version.
This is not going to be the case for PoE, so stop calling it an expansion.

Rofl, can't believe I'm reading this.
They can call it whatever the hell they like. Noone cares about UNIMPORTANT semantics... well except you, I guess. Get a fucking life, buddy.
When will we get the charges microtransactions? The new ones really look awful,I can take the purity nerf but not a nerf to the look of something that was fine only because you want to sell us some microtransactions, better add more pets or skill effects, but not this shit!
I'm a savage, I'm a king
I fought deceivers
I conquered evil
The tendency of PoE developers favouring group plays which involve <10fps and undermining solo plays just gives every one of us a very good reason to go back to Diablo 3 when Reaper of Souls comes out next year...
wow weems everybody is pissed about that patch .. me too pointless nerfes

FUCK YEAH CHRISTMAS TREES

Yeah, not fond of this at all XD
I liked them as is. I think it sucks the way certain graphical effects need to be modified to be smaller/simplified just to accommodate certain specific situations.

Maybe they could shrink/simplify as you gain more? I don't know. Those just looks oversimplified and ugly IMO. I much prefer the orb look than the glowing lights.

That does it, I need to get the smallest violin of the world.
Not for the patch's change, for the people crying so quick and so hard

Did I heard a "this may change before it get release" Right at the beginning of the video?
Ah ok then :)

Make suggestion, don't attack those guys that feed your offtime with good stuff for free...

Thats exactly what we are doing.
That phrase "it might change before it gets released", what do you think it actually means?
It means that they might change something on their own behalf before it gets released, it might mean that nothing gets changed, or it might mean that if enough people provide feedback on the forums, that they are going to change it DUE to that feedback.

Whining/crying/providing feedback is almost the same, as was proven with the unique item patch.
People whined, GGG decided to go back on their change.

Actually, the unfortunate truth is that valid feedback is not being listened to on these forums, only whining gets the job done.
For years we have been providing feedback to the map system, and even though GGG acknowledged the problems in their manifesto, they didnt do anything for over a year now.
If you whine, you get the job done in less than a week. The unfortunate truth of this forum.

Charges don't look great, but they are more clear.

Purity change is fine. Swap out the max res aura for the area you're in. Wasn't aware Purity was that high on the chopping block. There are still lots of bigger problems to fix.

Are we going to see a matching enemy elemental damage reduction to go with the Purity change?

New Descent seems fantastic.

Swap out max res aura for the area that youre in?

And bring like what? Two stack of chroms evrytime you'll make a run?

It is the definition because every single game that has an expansion follows that logic.
Every game that has an expansion, can also be played without the expansion, just using the original game.
And if you've taken that as your definition, that's fine, that's your business. But again, you aren't the sole authority with the right to define words, and just because you've noted some coincidence, some trend, does not mean the word has to reflect that trend forever for everyone else. People aren't "incorrect" for choosing a different definition to you.

There was a time when every single expansion came on disc. I've had arguments with people who thought - using the exact same logic as you are here - that you can't call something an expansion if it's delivered via download. These days I think people are a bit more sensible about that, and the same will happen here. Holding on tight to definitions solely based on tradition only ensures irrelevance.

If you dont care, why did you reply?

Semantics matter a lot.
If they just call that update a regular patch, the amount of new people that are gonna show up is going to be pretty small.
If they call it "RELEASE 2.0!" then a bunch of new people are gonna show up to the game.

We had plenty of big content patches during open beta, but only the RELEASE update had such a big impact on the amount of players that joined.
Why is this the case? Because semantics matter. Its the only thing that matters.
Which is why they are calling it expansion. It has a much bigger impact than calling it "content patch 1.1".

Fixed that for you. Don't want to look like your misusing a term for marketing reasons.

That's an idiotic thing to do.

Expansion is the correct term. Any time new map areas are added to the game, it is an expansion.

Any time new skill gems, items, vendor recipes, race types and any other non map area things are added it is a content update.
