You do realize that's the whole point of this league, right?

A bunch of people joining your instance with the intent to kill you isn't "trolling". You should consider not playing in this league if you really feel that way. It's called Cut-throat for a reason.

I don't plan on participating in this league anyway. I'm just commenting on the fact that a coordinated group of players can easily prevent one or more people from progressing by continuously entering their instance and killing them. I see the point of these league as adding the additional challenge of pvp to a race situation. There's a clear difference between random encounters or challenging someone of your level (which is fine) in a fight, and camping certain zones and just feeding off people who cannot realistically fight back (which is not in the spirit of the mode).

That is partly why the event is only 1 hour long, so the level difference isnt too large. Anyway, I dont see how grouping up to get the best advantage over others isnt in the spirit of this mode. (You are out to kill others by any means necessary)

EDIT: AzraelX was not talking about level differences though, thats a whole different issue in itself, but grouping up to kill other people of a similar level even though its a solo race is what I was talking about (There is no reason to group up against lower level people, you just outright kill them and a group wouldnt be necessary to do that)

No way, please. Solo Cut-Throat should exist. With trade disabled, ofc.
Dont be silly =P, disbling trade in a cut-throat race is redundant because you can just enter eachothers instances (I.E Impossible to disable)

Of course you cant disable 'open' trading (in instances, the 'old way') - but this will always have the risk to be invaded/attacked/robbed/killed (even more for the limited amount of accessible trade spots). Denying UI trades opts out the possibility of gear transfer from strand rushings.

Awesome this event is soo much fun! a cut throat monthly league may be interesting if they put level caps on zones.

Cut-throat will eventually be permanent. It seems these races are largely being used to find a good balance (which in Cut-throat, means balancing risk vs reward, not trying to make fights "fair").

That being said, level caps aren't necessary. A high level player invading low level areas is low risk but also low reward. There are much better ways to balance high levels versus low levels (see Page 3 for one such suggestion, which I came up with relatively quickly).

Basically: If the combined level of your party is more than 5 levels higher than the level of any other person, you cannot see that person on your map. If you can see someone, you can also see all other people in their party.

Results: A high level player cannot invade a low level instance and find his targets via the map. However, his targets can see him on the map, giving them a much better reaction time than him and enough time to portal out in most cases (or I guess log out/disconnect...).

This reduces the reward side without reducing the risk, thus making low level invasion even less appealing.

Another possibility (which again, didn't take much effort to think of), is adding a flask specific to Cut-throat which hides your name on the instance manager while in effect. A skill gem could also have this ability while in effect (like Phase Run).

The number of potential ways to balance this are limitless, especially for a skilled team of game designers who do it professionally. Something like level caps is going completely in the wrong direction for Cut-throat.

The behavior of invading low level instances also adds a predictable element to their behavior, and other players can then seek them out and ambush them much more easily. This will also give high-level mercenaries a lot of potential clients.

However, as previously stated, the fact players can log out/disconnect and disappear in 5 seconds is going to hurt this balance and promote high level vs low level. If you're a high level player and focus on improving your health/ES, being able to survive <5 seconds of damage is simple.

That means you can solo invade low level instances with no risk to yourself. Even if someone gets their higher level friend to join the instance to ambush you, you can simply log out/disconnect. Chances are basically 0 that they can close the distance on you and take down 100% of your health in less than 5 seconds.

This is another reason why it shouldn't let you log out/disconnect if you've taken damage within the last 5 seconds. As long as the person can hit you once, they can prevent you from escaping via log out. You could use a Portal Scroll, but at least it cost you something.

That's the sort of balance which needs to be looked at: risk vs reward.

On that front, I'd actually like to see a further restriction on using portals. They need to be clearly more useful than logging out, so to that end, perhaps something like being unable to use a Portal Scroll if you've taken damage in the last 5 seconds (however, you can still enter portals you made previously).

Also, the inability to enter the portals of other players (at least when you've taken damage recently).

I also feel there should be a penalty for logging out/disconnecting inside an instance. There should be motivation for using a Portal Scroll or risking the journey back to the waypoint/exit, rather than simply logging out every time you want to go back to town.

Cut-throat is all about player freedom, prevailing in a brutal world without restrictions.

Honestly, the only thing holding me back from going Diamond is the fear that the devs might cave into suggestions from people that Cut-throat wasn't designed for in the first place, and from people who think every single league needs to cater to their personal preferences, and it will become compromised and restrictive. Cut-throat is the main draw to this game for me, I intend to have my main character on the permanent version of Cut-throat. This is a unique league for "hardcore" cut-throat gameplay; fights aren't intended to be "fair" in the same way as they are in other PvP situations. Fair is what you bring to the fight.

Anyways, I hope everyone has fun during the event =) Every Cut-throat race is another step towards permanent implementation.
So, you die, you lose your equipment = you lose your skills...

so why dont just make it hardcore then? or do you think I can auto attack ftw?
