(Dec 1) Three-hour Solo Turbo Hardcore Ladder Race

Race was pretty fun for me, as I choose not to grind western forest for half the race. Going into act 2 I was behind #1 who was already into western. I just took it slow and progressed through to waterfall cave 2. I wasn't racing particularly hard, maybe I could have caught up if I did.

Why race if you just gonna trade? Why would you want to have an unfair advantage over other people? I don't understand the reasoning behind it lol

I had to fight Mervell with 254hp and 44 cold resist, i was not quite sure how I would be able to pull it off but i did, even tho the fight took me maybe 6 mins to do. I urge anyone to try and beat Mervell with those stats and using 2 of the worst low end weapons you could imagine.

I had about the same stats. What I did was to use sabre + kite shield and viper her down, only go to melee to refresh viper and run circles around her, once she gets to 25% or lower switch equip and nuke her down with normal attacks. only 1 portal needed this way. If you don't find sabre you can try to look for it from vendor, or use something else.

Yep for some reason I never even had viper I dunno what happened but I completely forgot to take viper gem, I even had a shield in my off set just in case so i could do that strat. It was a nightmare and I was pretty pleased with myself to pull it off, with only using dual strike and my ridiculously low stats.

After dying in all the turbo races before I could even reach coves I decided to play this one really safe. There was a witch ahead of me for a while but he died so then I got rank one and just continued slow and safe till the end.

That may have been me. No stats so I can't see where I was compared to you and everyone else when I died. Oh well there is another race tomorrow!
Where i can see tha ladder of the event ? :) It was really fun, died on level 9 tho... :D :D

failed on brutus kill lvl 11 with double strike templar =X 280 hp and lotta armor.

brutus was a nightmare with my build... tho I do fine in normal hardcore... turbo is something that I wish we had a permanent league to test some builds...

gonna test viper strike next
I had a poor race this time round due to constant terminal desync induced bails. 1 in gate, 4 in shipyard and 1 in coves, 5 of them from losing life to nonexistant or far off melee enemies and clearly not being where it looked like i was onscreen, and the final bail to flasks outright refusing to work during a large battle. The total rerunning probably wasted over 10 minutes. Flasks were also terrible overall, with about a 50/50 chance of them working at any given time unless i stood still to drink while there was nothing onscreen.

Drops were average with a massive glut of wisdom scrolls- i had near 30 when i reached merveil- but no movement boots until western. Brutus battle was the usual desync / ghost damage disaster, though i didnt have any near death experiences and he went down in under 5 minutes. Merveil went down in around 2 minutes with no problems.

I had a revised strat that was supposed to get me to waterfall cave with an hour to spare, but all those bails combined with no movement boots left me behind and i reverted to the usual western grind to the finish.

Feedback:

- Its likely that an efficient racer can reach waterfall caves in time to make it more profitable than just rushing straight to western/bridge in a 3 hour turbo race. I mention this because there have been alot of racers (myself included) who believed that 2/4 hours were probably better time limits for turbo races, but i think more testing is required to be sure.

- Trading also needs to be disabled in short term solo races. Potentially gaining more advantage from who you know than from what you know really undermines the "solo" part of the events.

Lvl 27 and 2nd place shadow / 4th overall in the end.

GG all, cya next race!

I disagree. Being able to practice and test builds would take away the "I'm skating on the edge of the disaster curve" feeling one gets from doing Turbo races and thus making them more exciting than vanilla hardcore races.
