Timmy, Johnny and Spike in Wraeclast
I feel that the player types of Magic: the Gathering actually apply really well to Path of Exile, with its classic ARPG play style coupled with the skill gems and passive tree system in place.
This makes it straw poll time! Timmy, Johnny and Spike Timmy, Johnny and Spike Revisited tl;dr Timmy is the one who plays for the experience. "Sure I'll map with you, as long as I get to kill things." Johnny is the one who does funky stuff just because he can. "Hey, I was thinking, what if I used avatar of fire with cold-to-fire on ice spear for a burning proliferation build?" Spike is the one who goes for level of achievement in one or another sphere of the game. Winning is the most important. (Congrats on first 100 in HC, SirBaker!) Both Timmy and Johnny.
Plus a bit of Spike. "You can't bash someone else's shitty taste in music when you listen to 'grindcore'" -TheWretch̢

Timmy : at the end of the day no one remembers who was best or on top. So make the journey for yourself memorable. Stop worrying about who is best or not.

" Yeah, Sceptre of God is a pretty big step up in difficulty in Normal. It was a bit of a shock playing it for the first time with a new character. I can imagine it limits inefficient builds very hard. |

Johnny first, Timmy second.
I do not trade. I rarely party. I don't bother with endgame. But I'm still here. I have wandered through insanity;
I have walked the spiral out. Heard its twisted dreamed inanity In a whisper, in a shout. In the babbling cacophony The refrains are all the same: "[permutations of humanity] are unworthy of the name!" |

I'm definitely Johnny.
I even managed to Johnny D3 A scion may be born of the rich, and as such hold more opportunity...
but a scion will never be able to appreciate the finer beauty of those less fortunate. |

VORTHOS
Better stay in the land of the damned, Exile. Here, even the very words are corrupted by Nightmare.

I'd say Timmy with a dash of Spike.
It's important to me to try and play the highest level maps (so far not successful) and I also get some joy out of completing challenges and achievements and such too. Both have a competitive element to it, but a large part of the desire is to experience all of the content that the game has to offer. |
