One Shot Damage Limit
" This, I agree with. Counter-range map properties and mobs can diminish the disparity between melee and range. Don't make the game easier for melee, make it harder for range. You are a melee character. You see Brutus and/or Kole, either in the normal game or their map versions.
Your options: 1) Try to face-tank them with melee. 2) Do a temporary respec to ranged; nothing fancy requiring respec points, just equip some ranged gems for a second. Just in case you didn't know, these bosses are LOL easy if you're ranged. Just dodge the harpoon; well, I guess that's not quite LOL easy, but it's easy enough. Snipe from ranged. Survive. Win. Complain about this if you want, but the best answer is just to go ranged temporarily. And furthermore, giving ranged even more defensive opportunities — because what's to stop ranged from profiting from these suggestions? — is not what the doctor ordered. Bear Trap, Added Fire Damage, Hatred. You're welcome. Now quit QQing. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

" Explaining to melee characters that if they want to play the game they just need to switch to ranged every time they face melee unfriendly mobs and believe this is a valid argument is plain beyond my reach. You can play range vs any mob, while you can't as a melee without falling back to range. If the problem was the other way around you would all of a sudden understand it better. |

If you can't facetank because your life or armor is too low because of the way you built your character, then don't facetank. Find another way. What I use for Kole as a physical damage Evasion based Shadow: Spell totem+Summon Skeleton.
Nerfing the damage is silly. The point of the fight is that they can 1-shot you, so the strategy is to work around that. |

Basically i disagree with OP
I think that the one shot is not a problem, if my stats are to low or if i couldn't dodge the it, it's my fault. I just want to understand the one shot, i mean, having the correct armor reduction value, or understanding of damage system. If dying with 70% armor reduction is a possibility then i want to know how thing work i'm going to chek out the wiki^^ Last edited by Necrark#2626 on Nov 25, 2013, 4:22:02 PM

I like this idea.
Armour also doesn't help against really hard hitting mobs, so a big life pool is required. However, with this then I can actually make a vaal pact leecher and kill everything without having to make sure I don't get one shotted. It allows for builds with less life but better sustain. +1 "You can't bash someone else's shitty taste in music when you listen to 'grindcore'" -TheWretch̢

" I agree with you on one thing: Player Skill is more than reflexes... ...but I hope you don't mean Player Skill is theorycrafting, because that is bullshit - anyone can copy a build/strategy. Good decision-making on the fly - now THAT cannot be copied. --- On topic, I think it's acceptable for GGG to expect players to withstand a minimum damage spike of X. Where I disagree with GGG, is where it seems like you need to either be very tanky or ranged... I think GGG needs to do the following: - tone down some one-shots - add abilities that are stronger against ranged example: piercing projectiles that gain Size, Speed & Damage as they move forward. Replacing one-shots with slow, telegraphed one-shots is NOT the answer. Replacing one-shots with counterable combos is one answer. Example: Enemy uses Where's the Money?, leaving Go back to Work! on you for 6 seconds. Then, Pimp Slap deals double damage while Go back to Work! is active. " I disagree with you and I think you learn a lot from being one shotted. Sure it hurts like hell on hardcore, but w/e on softcore. Symban, you say, " Well why can't 1 shots be both a gear check as well as a check of player skill/knowledge. The one thing I've always enjoyed about PoE is that the gear check is there, it's tough especially for some builds, but is pretty much required cause you will get wrecked later on if you cannot handle 'brutus' or 'vaal'. Dominus is a little super-beast atm so I won't add his name in there, but that too could be considered. Now take your example of a melee tanking Kole. You may not need a large hp pool, but perhaps need enough defense (armor/granite/life leech) in order to facetank him properly. Certainly not every class should be able to do this, but with the proper tactics, setup, etc players can down most mob/boss in the game. Does this game force you to play path of life? Perhaps, but there are certainly other options if you are not melee/facetanking bosses. Are all of my melee lvl 80 characters most life? Yes, but this hp allows my character to be more forgiving in events that I might get one shotted. Now back to being one shotted. Shit happens. Really unlucky shit happens. Like a ROCK fall critting you and one shotting you in merciless Vaal - it happened to me in hardcore (or that's what I saw on my screen as I was nowhere near vaal and RIPd). Stuff like this is totally out of your reach and you cannot really predict everything that might happen. The best is to prepare for the worst and overcome challenging with pure brute/gear, badass skill, or a mix of both. Nerfing one shots and/or capping damage is not a solution for what OP seeks - and easier time. Look what happened to D3 when they nerfed inferno. Game became a cakewalk. you clam that this can't be exploited but in games like borderlands 2 that had a similer mecanic there where builds that would have a low max health and get as much reagen as possible to be practicly invincible in poe you could stak life leech with the passiv that makes life leech apply instantly +wherl wind to deal a tone of damage and be super tanky

Between life/ES, Armore, Unyielding, Endurence Charges, Enfeebel and Fortify there are much possibilities to avoid getting 1 shot as a meele. Make shure ur cureses, charges Fortyfies and granits are up when its likly to get a big hit. Also know how many damage mods u can take, knowing to stay away on some bosses on a tripple damage mod map or a curse imune map is also part of beeing a good player. And dont be shocked.
