Saint Vitus: Physical crit ranger guide[Always Updated]

Why the hell are you dudes, Trevasotilo and DennyBraids, derailing this topic? Take your whines and personal attacks to PM if you want. Just stop putting useless posts, mostly for Trevasotilo, here.

Denny in fact posted fair response to those saying physical ranger has nothing to offer and everybody should go to LA/elemental side. He even shown his gear, which is at best mediocre, and still feels his physical ranger is enjoyable and works reasonably well.

Posting stupid personal attacks based on assumptions does not help anyone. Nor does judging anyone based on a fact he/she is playing in default league. Again, this topic was primarily created with default in mind and HC version of this build was added later upon requests of other posters.

So please, you have more useless crap completely unrelated to physical ranger or Victordoom's build, post it somewhere else.

Wasn't even my intention - suddenly a guy popped in with as you said mediocre gear telling how this build works - and he kites for a long time to clear maps, on the other hand LA spammers either facetank (because of life leech/blood magic) or clear mobs offscreen with holding right click... I just wanted an input from VictorDoom on the matter below

I think SaintVitus needs reviving in some form or another... Do we phys rangers really are that underpowered compared to those LA mainstreem players?

So, I would suggest to look into Naala's static blow eleranger.

elemental rangers have it easy because ele gear is everywhere, especially ele bows, crafting a 400 physical bow is much much harder than just getting a triple ele thicket for a few gcps.

Physical is harder to do because of gear,its much rarer than elemental gear and when it does pop up every ranger doing this guide will try to buy it and the reflect problem can only be avoided by using conversion traps, granite flasks etc.

Cant get good if you dont try, want to go spastic spam-fest like everyone else, go LA, want to try something different and challenging, go physical. I was the first to make physical work in closed beta when everyone said that going pure physical is not possible, with the right build it is as i have found out.

I would like to know if it is really worth going for iron grip. I mean you spent 4 points to get it and im not sure you would ever have enough strenght for it to give more then if you would take +8% projectile dmg four times... I would like to know Victors opinion about this.
Usually not worth taking it since you wont really be taking too much str in passives and you wont need str for gear, imo its just better to take some physical damage nodes.

Absolutely this. When I first started I thought I'd take str and grip, I calculated about 40-60% phys dmg. Then I just looked at how much I could get by just getting the phys dmg clusters around me I hadn't gotten. Came out to more dmg and less points.

The only plus side to the str is the extra hp, but for the points spent its just not enough. Sticking to the 2 main highways, the horizontal that goes from mana flows to the crit nodes, and from the crit nodes up to the shadow crit nodes, is the best and only path.
nah, guess my build is better. Taking the 2 Might notes and that "+10% + 20 STR" node give me up to 200 STR so i get DMG+ & life ....

but i guess you can do it as you wish. i think its fine if there are some customer variances in each build.... you can easly take those 4 points and take them to physical or projectile %-DMG nodes

EDIT: Hey i just saw the 3 Life Nodes next to the Top "acceleration" NOte.... i will respec some random 3 LifeNodes elsewhere and take the others cause they give +20 Life, 8& and 12% ... gues this is more than 3x8% ?

Your build is far from optimal and going for Iron Grip is just waste of points.

I have modified the passive tree, removing the path leading to Iron Grip and also changing the shadow tree. Only loss is evasion, everything else is just better:
+ more IAS (Berserking)
+ more critical chance (Bloodthirst)
+ more flat damage due to Heady Draw
+ Similar HP, extra 1.5% regen from Golem's Blood
I would take 18% evasion node at ranger starting position but that one point was missing for Heavy Draw notable.


2nd version with Shadow tree Acceleration:



Now, modified or not, you are missing Deadly Draw, which is absolutely superb source of damage for physical crit based ranger. The cluster gives you 70% multiplier + 15% chance/4% phys. damage for 4 points.
