What armor I should wear?

Yesterday I ran my usual Vendor runs after a level up. in Act 1 Merciless I found a 6 socket 5 linked level 53 PURE STR armor.

My guestion is..
Will I gain more armor from this type/level of armor, or will I gain more from a pure dex or dex/str armor?

IF this Pure STR armor gives the most Armor, will it be worth the Movement Speed penalty?

you will gain way more with pure dex or dex/str hybrid. Try to trade it for a 5l dex armor, someone is bound to have one he doesn't need

About skills/supports


Mana Leech Quality: Increases the speed you gain the mana (iirc)
Faster gain in mana = easier to maintain your mana pool

Frenzy Quality: Increases the added Attack Speed
Faster Attack speed increases your DPS.

Concentrated Effect Quality: Reduces the Mana Cost
The lower cost you have on RoA, the easier you can spam it.

Hi there,
I am new to the path of exile world and randomly picked up this build for my first char. I am now hitting the last tier of leveling and would like to ask you a few questions about your build. I hope you don’t mind explaining things twice because I must admit I didn’t read the whole 46 pages of this thread.
Firstly, you said we must level up mana leech gem first, but the thing is, I don’t see it in the 5l or 6l ROA based skill build. It is only said we should use it ‘’if needed’’ in the 5l frenzy based skill build. I am lost there, am I supposed to have a 4l ROA+mana leech on gloves/head/boots and a second 6l ROA on my weapon ?
I have mana problems if I play without mana leech and with 2 auras and I don’t know how to fix that without mana leech.
For now I found only 4l items and so I am playing with ROA/mana leech/faster proj/faster attack and I am trying to find a 6l bow to throw in increased crit damage and increased crit chance. Do they really make a difference ? I mean I feel like my dps is so low with ROA. But even with your build, I feel like I dps a bit more with a 4l lightning arrow/mana leech based skill build ( I got a 170d without elemental damage bow). It would be sad to waste tons of exalted on such a bow if the 2 extra links don’t really make a huge difference on my dps.

Mana leech gem is important for main DPS skill that is usually Frenzy because it usually have high costs due many support gems attached to it. You can also have some mana leech from passive tree and gear, which is usually enough to recover mana on AOE skills such as ROA or split.
Also, the higher level your are, the less need you have for mana or life leech gem to be used since your gear will have more % leech mods. If you can sustain your mana usage without mana leech you will be better off with a support gem increasing damage.

The OP has section where gem setups are covered, I believe there are suggested 4L, 5L and 6L builds. The more links you have, the higher DPS or utility will be available on the supported skill.

I have started Frenzy with Increased Critical Strikes gem but I have replaced it by Increased Critical Damage because it greatly outperformed the earlier gem. Numbers are probably different for each build but generally critical damage has priority over critical strike chance.

Once you get 6L armor or bow, you probably want both critical strike chance and critical strike damage gems socked in the main skill. I surely intend to do so once I get my hands on such bow or armor. My intended Frenzy support would be: Faster Attacks+Added Fire Damage+Increased Critical Damage+Increased Critical Strikes+Mana Leech.

Priority to quality is your Mana Leech gem, then comes Frenzy gem and then concentrated effect, then you do the others, order doesn't matter on the rest.

Level all of your gems to maximum level!
