Would you like to see an up to date currency exchange rates website?
I ask you, because...
How?
If people are interested in this, post here. But we'd have to work as a team, I, for example, have no clue about the standard exchange rates. |

Sites like that are nice in theory and I personally have no objection to them, but you can expect that a lot of people on here will. No matter who is running the site, there will be someone who claims that they are intentionally manipulating currency rates for their own benefit or that they are somehow trying to "force" people to trade at those rates. Even if you allow people to vote on the rates, there will still be a risk of people intentionally voting for false rates in order to change the perceived values.
I always tried to use such sites as they were probably intended...as a rough guide to get started when you have no idea what the value is, but not as an absolute FACT that must be followed no matter what. Unfortunately, not everyone is smart enough to understand that. |

I would love a site that showed relative trade rates. I usually don't ever have trade chat on unless I'm trying to sell something. As stated above though, you would need to implement some kind of control system because obviously if people can vote people will find a way to abuse it.

exilestats.com seems pretty accurate for the most part.

My thought is we already know roughly what equals what.
So a definitive guide kinda ruins the haggling, and interactiveness of buying and selling. But I remember as a newbie being all "wtf" about currency when I began... IGN: PurpleTrapperPuppet / Perandus

Sites like that make it harder to turn a profit. It also makes people feel entitled to getting whatever the amount is set by the site, and usually will not trade for less.
The point of a currency with no standard value is that people will develop and establish their own values based on what it means to them. Once hive mind sets in, there's no getting out of it. They key is choice. "Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right!" Henry Ford

I don't like the sites because people take it as gospel and they can never be entirely accurate. For instance a lot of people try to say fusings in anarchy are 2:1 chaos, but try to convert 100 fusings to 50 chaos in less than 6 hours of trade spamming. Especially when you can get 20 alts for 1 chaos all day long.

Opinion :
I dont believe any site will really be all that accurate. With standard league seeing prices driven up over time as the league ages, and with all the other leagues seeing regular resets, the prices fluctuate often enough. Even through out the duration of anyone given league, the prices are bound to change. At best, a site like this would only serve as a very crude avg, and thats assuming no one was price manipulating, which we may have already seen take place on some other sites. Either way, i dont care one way or the other, as i never look to anything except the games trade channel for verification. GGG - Why you no?

I like them myself since i know how to use them properly, but overall I think they are a bad idea because most people dont know how to use these guides properly, and tend to take them as gospel.
I think if someone is putting up a new one, you should add some basic common sense "rules" so that people who use them arent as retarded. Something simple like: "exchange rates can vary up to 30% above/below listed prices based on supply and demand" etc, essentially just spelling out how a trading economy actually works in simple terms since a lot refuse to even budge 1% from an OFFICAL ;) exchange rate. |
