I wasn't making fun of ESL people.
I wasn't making fun of "minorities".
I clearly wasn't making a politically-correct, customer support spiel.

I was just poking fun at an intentionally illiterate post that summarized the most common complaints about the game - issues which have been answered seriously elsewhere on the forum many, many times.

I am very sorry if I have offended anyone with my post, or made them feel uncomfortable. I honestly thought it was totally obvious that the OP wasn't being serious, so I responded in kind. That's all.

Regarding the "professional" behaviour of staff (including myself), on the whole we are. Just look at our post histories. At my post history. The customer support guys & gals follow a stricter standard than the devs, but no-one actively insults our players.

Also, we aren't trying to be super-serious about everything. We don't enforce strict rules on how to talk to to players. We don't only speak in a formal, so-PC-it-hurts monotone. We're gamers, too. We like to relax and chat with players, to joke, swear, and even troll the community from time to time. It's actually a part of our business strategy: we don't want to be yet another monolithic, faceless corporation that shits out a slurry of brown first-person-shooters. We're indie, and we do what we want, not some dark, looming publisher. We're making the game we want to play, and we hope others do, too.

Yes, GGG has grown a ton since I joined a bit over 5 years ago, when it was just 5-6 of us in Chris' garage, tripping over cables and reheating baked-beans for lunch. Now, we have an office. Three offices, even. And a customer support department. What? When did that happen? It's almost like we're a legitimate business or something. But we're still the same people. We still horse around, play games (POE and others), have dinner/lunch together, go out for a movie or board-game night... it's really a fun place to work!

If I were sitting somewhere in a sterile cubicle, toiling away for some giant machine of a company, without any opportunity to interact with the community, with no chance of accidentally insulting someone like a real person would, well... fuck that.

Are you telling me this is inappropriate for a ruler?!

I guess its par for the course. I think many Rulers throughout history were sexual deviants of some sort.

It would certainly be hard to beat some of the Roman Emperors as far as that goes.

Some American Presidents may have been close, but no cigar(well, except for Clinton...)
i'm glad that this has settled and that all parties are appeased

as a community it is very easy for us to jump on someone and say "you're wrong! what the f's wrong with you?!". i too have been guilty of that many many times. i suspect that was what really ticked off marremurt and co. more so than rhys' post itself

what rhys has done is a perfect example of how we should treat each other i believe. let's try to see what the other person's view is, and explain why we believe something else.

pokopensuke had PMed me separately saying he agreed with my earlier post. and i think he already knew that Rhys didn't mean to insult and it was in response to a troll. i really think it was the feeling that he was being attacked by others that resulted in the conversation that ensued.

thanks rhys, for showing us how one should handle such situations, and also for being who you are!

Hey Rhys, you guys aren't hiring an Electrical Designer with an Oil and Gas specialty are you? Well, if GGG is ever planning on expanding to drilling and packaging oil, you know who to call to design your electrical system...

:(

/bravo!

I can only think of one quote that will sum it all up.

"To deny our own impulses is to deny the very thing that makes us human."

What movie is this from?? :)
Pain is Good for it lets me know that I am still alive.
This obvious troll thread, Rhy's humorous response, and a couple of forum users getting bent out of shape and getting their feelings hurt is an excellent example of why most game developers keep their customers at arm's length and never bother interacting with them much.

It's like my profession as a law enforcement officer. I can't ever cut loose in front of a citizen, I have to remain guarded. I can't tell someone a joke, and speak honestly about <insert random crime here>, because someone will be offended and react disproportionately to the original "offensive" remark and basically go full-retard.

I'm no saint online, and Charan's certainly called me out on my overall negativity recently (rightly so), but for fuck's sake, at least I know a joke when I see one.

The users in this thread that don't speak English fluently get a pass: context can easily be lost in translation. The ones whining about customer service and how "things should be done" and that "people like Rhys will cost GGG customers"? Yeah. If the customers that GGG drives away are the ones that complain about a developer showing a human face, then the door is that way. Please leave.
