it still works

I dont thing so :(
40% vaal pact not enough for survive

at 40k pdps you still leech 40k*0.25*0.4 = 4k es per second (2k at 20k pdps) from a single enemy. multiply this by the number of enemies hit (reave is an aoe!)
if that's not enough for you to surive, you did something wrong..

Perz, have you looked at or tried Jauer's reave build (http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/708066) in the duelist forums? I've been looking at reave CI builds, and was wondering if you had an opinion on the benefit of aurora's ES regen on block vs the chill immune you have in your build. It was mentioned in his thread that the one weakness his build had was theoretically to chill + chains starving life leaching.

imo aegis builds need to sacrifice too many points in block nodes as for this reaver to be worth it. also stun/freeze/chill immunity is so important for reavers i don't want to miss it.

Is it a wise thing to use Concentrated Effect if you dont have a Carcass Jack?
I will gain dps but i lose aoe so im not really sure if its worth it.

Hey Perz,

So let me start by saying I've been a big fan of Reave. I had a reave ranger in Domination but really wanted to try a shadow out so bingo found this and was excited to give it a try. I'm a pretty casual player so leveling has been slow but I've run into an issue and wanted to get your opinion.

Currently I'm level 38, just finished Normal difficulty and am finding I'm taking quite a beating. I mean I'm getting beat like a government mule, sometimes its 2-3 hits and bame I'm dead. Currently I have about 650hp and 350ES. I have not spec'd a point into Ghost Reaver at this point and was wondering at what point you would recommend that. I figured I would wait until I was ready to get CI in Merciless and just before that would grab Ghost Reaver. I'm starting to think however that maybe it is necessary earlier.

So I just wanted to pick your brain and find out if you think adding Ghost Reaver could help or if its just that I need to stay patient and continue to add gems and gear and wait on Ghost Reaver a bit longer.

Thanks in advance for any input. And for what its worth when I'm staying alive I love this build! I'm going to keep working to find a way to keep using it.

Hey Jag,

While I'm not Perz, I will jump in here and say it will be easier to give you some advice if you post your passive tree and link your gear.

As for leveling, there are a few things that come immediately to mind that make it easier.
1) Pick up health nodes in the passive tree that you will respec into your CI->CI ES nodes later on (probably around 68-70 is when you will want to switch to CI, when you have >2k ES)

2) Granite flasks need to be up most of the time you are fighting, you might not have one yet, so I would try to get a couple. (for leveling 1Hp, 2 Granite, 1 Mana, and 1 Quicksilver is what I used)

Hope that helps!
Thank you very much for the response. I appreciate any help. First thing you said makes a lot of sense. I've been speccing into the ES nodes and not the life nodes like is indicated in the final tree Perz has posted. I've been sticking to it almost religiously. Life has been clearly an issue. I'm also trying to focus on Ev/ES gear as I can prioritizing ES to get my survivability up, well with the hopes of doing so. Here is my gear currently...yes it isn't great but I'm running self found and this is the best I've done so far so feel free to tell me what I need to be focusing on if this is wrong...

Here is my current passive tree:

My belief is with some work on my gear things will get better but until I get to that point I'm going to have to suffer through some rough patches. Let me know what you think though. Thanks again.
Ok, so a couple of things to help you out here.

1) You should pick up the life wheel immediately above the Haste node (the base +20 life and the 24% extra life is very nice), grab one of the 8% wheels, and then the Written in Blood wheel. This will help give you some base life. For now, prioritize +life and elemental resistances on your armor over ES. You can focus more on getting the ES once you hit Act 2 in merciless, sometime around mid 50s. By doing the quests for the respec points, you should have enough respec points to change those once you have ~2k ES. This is a fairly standard leveling technique used by CI builds because most equipment does not provide a high enough ES base until later in the game. You might even want to use evasion/armor for the time being, to help you mitigate some of the damage until you get some granite flasks.

2) General advice for your weapon. Know which claws you need. Example, you are currently using the Fright Claw, which is nice because it has the % physical leached as life, which is really important later. For now, I would look for a WHITE http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Thresher_Claw take that (with whatever links you want on it already), use 4 blacksmith stones to 20% quality the item while it is white, and use the vender recipe of white weapon + RARE rustic sash + 1 blacksmith stone to get a max +phys dmg % weapon. Very effective for leveling as you are not fully dependent on drops for your DPS upgrades.

Hope that helps!
