To all legit players

My question is, why does adding a level 1 alt in a level count the same as adding a level 50?

If the bonus for having a much lower level player in your instance was very small, would that fix some of these problems?

Leveling doesn't take long. At all.

Only way to circumvent this is thru /player x.

It's going to happen.

A lot.
No, the level gating would be nothing more than a very temporary stopgap, specifically aimed at making it not worthwhile for 1wk events.

There are other options out there that make this whole thing sufficiently expensive that nobody will really do it for league competitions. Another poster made an interesting suggestion above, but it all relates to how XP is sharing in the party. Alter that scheme just slightly so boosting doesn't bring a big enough benefit anymore, and it'll go away overnight.

Idea #4, provided by TEBird: no more range restriction on XP splitting. Solves the problem pretty convincingly, don't you think? This isn't an anonymous-party game, like certain others, where instance-wide XP sharing would be a disaster.

XP is only one side of the story

The +50% quantity per person in instance is the other.
part of the problem is that monsters do not get much stronger with one more player.

The hp increase should be nearly 100% per extra player.

Please just for the sake of a directed debate, can we leave the MF out of this thread.
My bad. Thought this thread was about multi-loading.
It's fine, there's a lot of nerves wrapped up in this topic. The reason the quant thing doesn't particularly apply in this context: we're talking about fairness in races here.

I don't particularly care if people boost or load in hardcore/default. But when shop prizes are on the line for these races, though, XP is the winning ticket. Take away the XP benefit, and I doubt you'd see boosters in short leagues.

Exactly, within the context of races, you can kill the bonus in races by making low levels not count the same as higher levels.

You would not spend time leveling those alts, nor would you even have the time to do so and still win.

Within the context of races, I fail to see how this is not a solution.

You don't understand, I wasn't even replying to you, zeto :). In fact I was defending you a bit, if indirectly.

We have four suggestions so far.
Mine (at best a stopgap)
Faerwin's (a reasonable permanent solution with some drawbacks)
Your suggestion is suggestion #3, and a perfectly valid one at that. Although it doesn't completely erase the XP benefit for much longer races (a month long, say). It wouldn't be worth leveling a level 60 booster against a 1 week race, but it probably would be in a month race.
Bird's (permanent solution with fewer drawbacks)

I missed one, I think. Gotta go look it up.
ah, right. kolton's (#5 now, sorry for missing it earlier!)
A possible solution could be to change shared xp penalty into an actual bonus for nearby party members

I don't fully understand the implications of this one, but it looks like a possibility.

We do need to try to keep this discussion civil, though. It's derailed a little bit from that in the last page.
