Defeated merciless Vaal at Lev 61:
Typical 2H groundslam mara (BM, RT, IR, high life/regen) * 2.8k life after reservation (grace/anger) * 73 fire, 34 cold, 75 lit resists * 45% DR with grace * Resist Passives: diamond skin, 2x cold, 2x fire resist With these stats the fight was not too bad. Was able to survive a direct slam attack (phew!). Keeping high resists without sacrificing too much life or DR was challenging, but doable. Because I was paranoid I leveled to 59 in Fellshrine to gear up and increase his life pool before doing act 2 quests. I think my char's survivability on average during progression was much higher than the last 1-week race, if only because I made resists a high priority- especially for boss fights (max or close). Rocky Climb and Prisoner's Gate in act 1 were tough due the herds of ranged fire/lightning goatmen (may they all die a horrible painful death!) and fire/puncture dogs. The rare mobs seem too close together, often resulting in battling 2 at once. Decoy totem for the win! (don't know how I would've survived without it). On a side note, needing to keep your auras in an active gear slot makes having enough sockets for all your skills quite a balancing act. After I gear up a bit more it won't be an issue, but with 3 sockets/item on average it's a challenge! (hard to get higher socket/link counts during progression). Too bad most of the players are simply going for GS Marauder or Templar for obvious reasons (easy mode with easy resists). What is the result of these? : "Yes, Mara and Temp are still easy mode.. I just look for more resists gear now."
We won't know how is the change really affecting gameplay for remaining majority of classes (duelist, shadow, witch, ranger). There are of course few exceptions, which I personally would like to hear more about. The trend is still same... pick Marauder, take GS and go for the win (whatever it is for you). I am wondering when(if) this will change... :( |

Well even rangers use groundslam now(KittyofDoom)
Considering my build I have to say the res penalties are a huge slowdown if you don't have got luck with rings. Luckily I found the unique resistance cap or else I would still lurk in ruthless. Refund points become far more important now. After I crafted some kind of endgame equipment I had to refund some points so I could at last get one more 15% damage node on minions. The resnodes need better placement no question, also the duelist, shadow and ranger don't have got good access to resnodes at all. The common maradeur build barely needs modifations anyway since it gets 60% from the maradeur tree 10% going to the templar tree and later he can improve it with 18% from centernodes. Same goes for a melee templar build. Other kind of builds need serious stuff and skill modifications to counter those penalties. |

" Yep i just crashed and got killed by 1 extra cold dmg mob in a map. My broken graphics card cause me system lock ups often so its a huge gamble for me =). Didn't get lucky in this race. Good luck for everyone still racing! IGN: Rollface
