I'm not going to vote just yet, but I do want to ask if anyone has any released announcements from GGG saying they wouldn't put advertisements in the game. I could have sworn I saw some, but I couldn't find any from a cursory search.

As such, I can see both sides of the argument. On the one hand, players who want a product-placement-free game will no longer have full satisfaction from POE - there is no way I know of to prevent other players' footprints from showing up in town. On the other hand, GGG never specifically said they wouldn't do anything like this, the logo fits within the style of the game, and anything to fund further desync development and content development is always beneficial to the growth of the game.

In my opinion, the easiest way for GGG to reap the best of both worlds is to implement a checkbox in the options menu called "View product placement microtransactions," which would disable the footprints on screen for anyone who checks the box whether for all users or just users who have spent GGGold.

Of course, it's easier said than done. There are questions of whether they would lose the partnership with Razer if such an option were implemented, and whether implementing such an option would take significant development time, and I'm sure there are further issues that I can't think of off the top of my head.

What's with all these threads complaining about what they put in their game?

I find myself wondering how many people would have recognized Razer's logo if they hadn't been told it was Razer's logo. Even if you know the symbol, it's not like RAZER is flashing over the arch as you enter the Fetid Pool, or Nessa is sporting a Razer T-shirt. Great to see GGG bringing in some corporate partners, so long as things aren't overdone in-game.

I think I would have a problem with blatant, in-your-face advertising, but the Razer micro is optional, and its runic appearance is much more in keeping with The Game's feel than that wonky little crown IMO.

Put me down as as a "like", but I would urge GGG to please tread lightly on this path.
