POE will be coming to consoles whether you like it or not.

Aren't developers also having additional licensing costs for releasing patches on consoles?

Given that I and the fact that the game needs patches to flourish and give profit in the long term,
I honestly doubt that GGG will make it happen. Technical issues I mentioned earlier aside.
For one thing, aside from the obvious costs of your employees and general operation, developing for PC is free. You need only have the information available to you and bam, you can crank out games like no one's business.

Consoles, on the other hand, actually cost money to develop for. There are costs and fees associated with obtaining the rights and the information (SDK) to even begin development on any console... and then there is the giant behemoth of a task of getting distributed.

And it's not like you can just pick up the SDK and start coding away like mad, consoles require you to be optimized in a way that most PC games are not. Nintendo is a great example-- their SDK is by far the most intensely technical thing I have ever laid eyes on. Your code has to be pretty damn lean to run on that thing.

I'm using the Wii U as an example, here, because it best shows the technological hurdles you have to overcome to make the leap from PC to console. Here, take a look at this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latte_%28graphics_chip%29

That pitiful little thing is the GPU for the Wii U. Go ahead, take a look at the specs. Now look back at your PC. Now look at the Wii U, now back at your PC. That's just the GPU, so the hardware problem should start to become really obvious.

Other consoles are clearly not so lacking in hardware, but any software they run still has to conform to a somewhat rigid standard. The PS3 has a REALLY bizarre CPU architecture (cell processors ring a bell?), and therefore Sony lacked in third party support. Established, experienced game companies were banging their heads against the floor trying to figure out how to code for that thing with good reason.

I really do respect GGG a lot, they have taken off a huge bite to chew and have done so marvelously. But, I think even they know that the console world is a bit out of reach, for the moment.

They are now a lot patch-friendlier and don't take any money for it I believe.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
Too much of a niche title to release on console imo.
hey if they wanna release this to the PS4. I'd be cool with that. I'm sure it would run way better on that then on this PC.

Well, this is just about silly as shit. There not even an official Mac version yet.

At the very least, both the xbone and ps4 will be x86 based with fairly familiar (to pc developer) gpus, memory architectures differ a bit though.

Imo, no way in hell PoE is appearing on any console any time soon.
