The Infernal Blow HEAVY METAL Marauder - Build Guide (1.1 Updated!)

I'm thinking on stacking area damage, how would a Carcass jack and supporting concentrated effect support gem on infernal blow work?

When anarchy & onslaught first launched I decided I wanted to hunt some exiles and that I wanted to do it in as manly and metal a fashion as possible. Eventually I settled on the manliest of all skills - Infernal Blow.

Passive Skill Tree

Key Points
Resolute Technique - gives us the consistency needed for melee and allows us to spend points on defensive and damage passives instead of accuracy.

Aplify - increases the AoE radius and damage of Infernal Blow's Proc, Melee Splash & Leap Slam.

Master of the Arena - Essential for melee targeting and makes Multistike much more effective.

Iron Reflexes - Evasion to Armor fro Grace Aura as well as some gear flexibility.

Endurance Charges - With Warlord's Mark we have close to 100% uptime on endurance charges, this maxes out the defensive bonus we get.

Mana Nodes - Min max this as much as possible, I've been able to get by on very few key nodes but this will depend on your gear.

Blood Magic - used to level up to about 70 where we drop it once we get some key mana gear.

Damage & Stun - Very few damage nodes but the ones we do get are super efficient. A few key stun nodes offer a ton of survivability.

Bandit Rewards
Normal - Oak (life)

Cruel - Oak (Phys damage) OR passive point

Merci - Oak (Endurance Charge)

Skills & Support Gems

Infernal Blow
Core Supports = Melee Splash, Multistrike & Melee Physical Damage

Additional Supports = Weapon Elemental Damage, Added Fire & Life or Mana Leech

Leap Slam
Core Supports - Faster Attacks, Stun & Endurance Charge on Melee Stun

Additional Supports - Melee Physical Damage, Life Leech, Added fire.

With the addition of end charge on melee stun leap slam can easily become your primary method of endurance charge generation. See this video for an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuAu9_9w99o

Warlord's Mark
Gives us 100% uptime on endurance charges and a ton of leech. Also allows us to get super spammy with our flasks.

Enduring Cry
Essential for leveling and allows us to build initial charges and maintain ones when we cannot get warlord's mark kills. I ended up dropping this when I added endurance charge on melee stun onto leap slam. Even vs bosses it's possible to keep your charges up just by leap slamming!

Auras
Essential - Grace & Determination (or purity if needed) / Hatred / Level 4 Clarity.

Grace & determination can carry you even when your armor is extremely sub-par from gear.

Additional - Anger & Wrath (these only give marginal benefit).

Blood Rage
With our regen we can maintain this without taking damage. Use it to improve clear speed in easier content/maps.

Molten Shell or Immortal Call
Both of these are viable if you have a socket left over, personal preference for which you prefer to use. Personally I rarely end up using either.

Other Skills with potential
Glacial Hammer for Single Target or to Switch out with Infernal Blow.

Dominating Blow is pretty fun.

Decoy totem or rejuv totem.

How to Play this Build

- Enduring Cry for initial charges or whenever they are about to expire.

- Warlord's mark all the mobs you will be fighting in the next few seconds.

- Initial with leap slam (also use to escape if things get hairy). This stuns all mobs allowing for...

- Infernal Blow for the kill. Focus on enemy with highest life and the melee splash will kill the trash. You do more damage to your main target as well. Hold shift always when using this attack to ensure you hit without moving or desyncing.

- Move to next pack with leap slam. Hold shift when you leap slam to prevent arbitrary running (trust me on this). Personally I rebound shift to tab.

How to Deal with Reflect

Reflect is only dangerous with this build if you don't know how to deal with it.

Elemental Reflect - Use Leap Slam as the IB proc can kill you on larger packs.

Physical Reflect - Use Infernal Blow as multistrike splits the damage in three allowing time to leech. I have never even hurt myself with phys reflect when using IB. DO NOT LEAP SLAM PHSY REFLECT PACKS!

Dual Reflect - Hide under the covers and switch Infernal Blow for Glacial Hammer.

Gearing Guide

Weapon
Start saving for a Marohi Erqi from the beginning. I bought a 6S one for 2.5EXA and linked it for another 44 fusings. Not cheap but doable even for a casual player. Until you get the Marohi use blue maces with 90%+ phys damage and 20% quality. Marohi because of the AoE, stun and damage.

Gloves, Boots, Helm & Chest
Life Resists and Armor. Movespeed is not important on boots as we get around with leap slam.

Here's mine at the moment (I have a long way to go on the armor stat):

Belt
Defensive affixes and Stun Threshold Reduction.

Rings & Amulet
You need at least:

- 1% mana leech

- One decent base mana roll.

- One decent mana regeneration roll.

- INT/DEX on the amulet.

Everything else can be defensive or offensive stats.

Flasks
Insta Heal Flasks with Dispels. You can spam these a lot and they will stay full thanks to warlord's mark.

2x Granites of Iron Skin.

And I think that's everything! Lemme know if you have any questions and I'll try and check back here every now and then!

how would this build go with spectral throw instead of inferno blow?

Looking at the build of the week video it looks quite similar.

Hey Ziggy :D I saw your build video on youtube and tried it in stadard. I'm currently lvl 86 and it's still insanely fun to play! I'm running a 'high cost' version of this build using

I don't use blood rage (not enough sockets), my auras are determination, hatred and grace. I have 3k hp which is no problem most of the time since I can kill mobs very fast (26k dps, 42k with added fire instead of melee splash). The only downside of my version of your build is the mana cost, due to the high attack speed. Just thought you'd like to know :D

Hi, will you update the Skill Tree to the new that we are going to get on Patch 1.0 and wish one is the best supp gem: Life Leach or Life gain on Hit?

thx ^^
how is this build noob friendly?
bump could this be modified to be a spectral throw build?
@HannibalK1ng
It would be okay-ish with spectral throw I think simply because it focuses on physical damage already. However, you wouldn't bother with the Marohi since the AoE would be pretty pointless (you could use it on leap slam but it'd be only a minor benefit). I'll have to use the skill first before I suggest any other specific changes.

@UseBoy
Extremely simple to level - blood magic from a low level until endgame and you can get by until act 3 merciless with a Blue 2H Mace. Stun and high endurance charges + granites make it pretty tough while leveling as well. At endgame it requires a bit more focus and effort as it's up to you to use your skills correctly to keep yourself alive but I feel like it's a very smooth difficulty progression.

@Shadows
I've toyed with the idea of Carcass jack and I think it could definitely work. It has very low armor conversion but I actually don't think that matters too much if you are good at keeping your charges maxxed. If you can get your hands on a 5L one I'd go for it!

Hey @all

Big thanks for this great guide. Ive started a week ago with poe. It helps me a lot after dying all the way with my first templar ^^

After the templar mistake ive searched something noob friendly and found this one. It feels great and easy to play. Definitly a nice start build for new players. Thanks again :)

Ive reached lvl 50 with my mara and tested dominating blow for a little "save" feeling. It works well but the infernal blow feeling is awesome xD
