[Beta/Obselete] [Build Guide] Frost Raven - Ice Shot Culling MF EB Necromancer - Great Solo Farming
This looks like a really interesting build. I'm not that up to speed on mechanics, but I'll ask anyway: wouldn't it be better to use quill rain to get that culling strike in? You could us it with this setup: Ice shot - IIR - IIQ - Chain/gmp - culling strike. Wouldn't this be better for MF, while maintaining good crowd control even with lvl1 ice shot? (elemental ailments happen independently of damage IIRC).
Thanks for posting this, looks very cool. |

"The pros: Very consistent Culling last-hit, therefore better MF; potentially a very consistent Blind. The cons: Essentially zero damage (the 50% less damage mod hits Wrath and Anger too, and a clearly useless Hatred). I personally would never use Quill Rain for solo, because doing damage yourself is important. However, it's actually worth serious consideration for group play, where consistently triggering your MF is very important, and you can rely on other players for DPS output. (You'd probably also want both GMP and Chain, instead of Blind, in such a situation.) When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted. Scrotie, wanted to give another update. I'm at level 50. Got to act3 cruel tonight. This is the first time that I've needed to farm up levels. A buddy gave me a descent 5 link bow which has helped. But the gmp/ice shot is working very nice and with 4 auras on right now my minions are tanky enough. I still need to get multi strike and life on hit equipped for them but I need a good armor with the right links still. I'm having a lot of fun still and the build progresses well and I've soled everything up to here with relatively poor gear.
One question. I seem to miss culling a lot. Have you tried pierce instead of blind to help hit more and have you seen this problem too? Last edited by Ravenous0001#7687 on Aug 19, 2013, 7:24:12 PM

I understand that's an attack speed thing, actually. If you can get hold of a Thicket or Imperial (or even a Glare) that would help immensely. Also getting quality on GMP helps.

That's the bow I'm using now. |

1.2 is awful low; yes, you're going to lose out on a lot of Culls that way. There's a reason the build helps Kraityn in Cruel; attack speed is an extremely important MF stat for this build.
With a bow that slow, I'd seriously consider adapting by treating it as a 4L by adding Faster Attacks and ditching Item Rarity, at least until you find a better 5L. Pierce is pointless; Ice Shot already has a damage-dealing AoE behind the target, so piercing is already built into the skill. I wouldn't bother blowing Chaos on a bow you're likely to upgrade past trying to get Attack Speed on it; the base APS on that bow is simply too low to justify further investment. " Yeah, it is slow. I didn't know that was to big of a problem. I'm still relatively poor, but it's on the list of upgrades I need. This was free from a buddy, so I'm making due. It was a big upgrade from the magic bow I was using! I'll give faster attacks a shot. |

Hey man, awesome build, but I was just thinking on this: Is really necessary the second curse? I was thinking on dropping the second curse points grab some all resist points and equip double andvarius. What do you think?

"The second curse is one of those benefits which is nice but not 100% required. What will happen when you're running maps is you will run into some monsters and bosses (in particular multiple Undying Incinerators in a tight group, and the Thicket boss) who will absolutely murder your zombies. You can play around this by simply sending multiple waves at them, but that means retreating when you run out, often several screens back, summoning an entire fresh army, and the moving several screens back to re-engage. Second curse is a big time-saver in that regard, especially if you don't have 6L on your bow for Blind yet (I don't, it's actually part of the plan and not something I've tested yet). However, sometimes I wonder how much good it's doing; a lot of the time when the zombies die it's due to an AI malfunction, and they just sit there and get AoE'd into nothing before really engaging. Double Andvarius is also something pretty good, but if I had two Andvarius (I only have one), I'd just wear them both anyway; the zombies draw enough aggro where you can ironman some negative resists in low maps and not suffer too terribly for it. That's assuming Anarchy of course; hardcore's a different story. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted. Hi, i'm actually following your build, my witch is 69, it's fun.
I have chosen to don't use GMP with Ice Shot cause it's terrible for lags in party. Even solo i suffer of lags and more with my actual bow, the Infractem cause it always pierce. I modified à little the build for the life, and instead of taking Inner Force (effect only on the witch). I took the life near the templar start with the 1% regen life, for maps there is degeneration (chaos or fire damage ...) don't know if it will be enough but it could help. http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgMBAnEEswdjDY0TWxRNGYUabBzcIvQnCyj6KpgyfjrhPC09D0GHRnFM_03jVK5V1lcrWK9akWTnaqxrF2vbbAttGW6qcLtzU3gNerh90n31fll_xoIegseIQIjxkDOTJ5Ugna6iAKZXpqynCKh9qW6sWa6Tr2y0DLXytz64k7-XwfPE9sWKxq7JPdP72Qva3dsL52Pr7vAf8h7yRfba-oD7Cf4K_kn-jw== |
