So I see most are going to BoR instead of a nice 6L. Not sure why, I enjoy having overcapped resists and being able to go for chaos resist as well assisting my bloodrage. Also having all 20% quality gems gives extra DPS towards the 6L's favor.

What is considered "optimum" as far as DPS, and survivability.

Is 6L/Helm combo more survivability/less DPS? And then BoR more DPS/less resists?

Please explain.

Running this build (#1 Tanky Version):

(Had to go the axe DPS node route because had to have the +30INT for purity)

My weapon/chest setup is as follows:

(I prefer Conc. Effect to Weapon Ele DMG because I feel since most of my DPS is physical, that will provide the most bonus)

Input much appreciated!

You get a 7 link item, and blind is important for survivability (see video, he dodges/blocks 5 blows that would kill most mid life builds)

Resists are made up elsewhere... if you can afford a good 6 link chest you can get rid of that and get the same resists + more damage and more life.

The only thing you lose out on in armor slightly but you gain 15% block.

Carcass jack is a nice item, but if you are using that you don't gain any real res from it in comparison to a chest like this

The 12% damage is nice and the radius is nice but you actually get less survivability. If you can get an amazing carcass jack then maybe if you get 2 green 4 red and not use the concentrated effect gem you can get the same survivability and almost the same damage. But why spend that much extra for almost no real net gain? You'd need a 90+ life, 800+ armor tri res helm to make it really worth while to do that. And even then it is only making it slightly easier to gear other pieces.

No matter what IMO BoR is your best bet, because conc effect is useless without carcass IMO.

even this combo isn't better than BoR? in a truly min-max'd world what is the BEST DPS?

If you really don't want the blind, which is important for face tanking things & overall survivability with the most DPS nodes taken then it would be your best bet. But IMO you get more out of BoR than those two items (after testing it myself with my 6l, not a carcass) if you can afford high tier items for other slots that give stats required for things like max res etc.

Either work, just play with what you want man. But you can sell both of those items and get a BoR + 2 amazing rings + an amazing amulet with maybe even more (like some great tri res ias life gloves)

In your guide you recommended 1 fast and 1 slow hard hitting weapon. Which weapon is soul taker? When looking for a second weapon to pair with soul taker, should I value attack speed or dmg per hit most?

Attack speed, hands down.

Atk speed is only a problem if you have mana issues. Otherwise, it easily scales the best with flat dmg.

Someone just bought one of my 300+ 1.7+ Axes for just that - to pair with a Soul Taker.

As posted before, a higher base damage is much better when you already have a very high attack speeed. If you have 10 attacks per second a tiny bit more attack speed doesn't add much, but an slow hard hitting weapon does.

You want the slower bases to get higher damage potential... but attack speed on those items is never a bad thing.

Like gavel and reave axe.

This build would work good with reave right?
This is a great guide, thank you for spending so much time and detail on this for everybody.

Im definitely going to put this to use and do my best to make such an outstanding character. In every game that offers i always need to have a dual wielding atk spd freak toon that wrecks face like this.

Obviously it won't work with axes, but it should work, i still haven't seen reave yet though. but will know by tomorrow.
It will definitely work with the build, at least so far my dps is like 40k char sheet dps w/ reave or so, however the one benefit is my soul taker which has the skills can't fail based on mana costs still works, so can dual wield, gain the stats on my character from soul taker, but use reave and I don't spend mana or health to cast it..

wow i thought for sure it would be just like cleave, and require you to have the weapons in both hands if dual wielding. But i suppose it doesn't attack with both hands, and that is the reason why the axe works? I guess if it does work it means I need this weapon.

Having a blast with this build, thanks for posting it. I'm curious to know if the new gem Reave is being incorporated into this build, and what others are thinking of it that have tried it.
