Death Penalty Changes in 0.11.3

Great patch, as always. Keep up thet good work, you guys and galls!

As for people who play HC and Onslaught, it's none of your business how someone *else* plays his game.

This is probably a change for the better. 8% is still strong enough to discourage zerging.

However, this doesn't address the real issue: immediately after gaining a level (or dying the first time shortly after gaining the level), there is no XP penalty because you have no XP... thus you can zerg without penalty. Even I've done this; I was at 98% on the Docks, ran into Jonah Unchained, barely escaped with my life... then farmed the rest of the docks to get to 62, then zerged him four or five times for the lootsplosion. This type of behavior shouldn't be possible and needs to be stopped with appropriate in-game punishment.

I think increasing the maximum XP to next level, with compounded interest for multiple deaths, at 8% would actually be just fine.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.
I think the change is bad.
You should do something like Diablo 2 did, where if you die you must go retrieve your corpse (it doesnt have to be this, it shoould be a sort of quest to do immediately tho) to compensate for some of the XP.

it would make it better than just making it faceroll while Hardcore is still oh so punishing, especially with desync and reflect affecting the game.

Can't say the penalty change is one I'm fond of, and I primarily play a glass cannon.

Have you guys considered a Souls style retrieval system? The implementation would probably have to be a little different.
its really nice to loose less xp when you die, this would make us more play, it was really hurting when you lost 15% xp

The main reason for having a death penalty is so that players aren't able to attrition their way through every fight. We're okay with the strategy of throwing yourself at a boss several times if it's a little too hard for you (which allows us to have pretty challenging mandatory boss fights), but there needs to be a penalty so that this doesn't become a dominant strategy.

But that doesn't make any sense. At all.

Boss fights that can be beaten through attrition are act bosses (Piety etc). These bosses are fought when you are <60 and experience loss at that point is IRRELEVANT already because experience and levels can be gained by in very minimal time.

The only time the experience loss matters is when you are 70+ and doing maps, and these bosses/areas CANNOT be beaten in this matter because of portal limitations.

So the change allows people to do it more efficient outside of maps, making an already dominant strategy for most easier and the portal map system means the change doesn't do anything to map zerging (because you can't), so what was the point? A cover-up to simply appease the ever so loud "ITS TOO MUCH" handful?

The only reason I play Anarchy and Standard is I do not personally want to throw away weeks of work to a server/out of my control death. But that doesn't mean I don't want to be penalized for stupid deaths and rewarded for a good build. I don't think 8% is enough.
I am against the nerf. You have to notice how big it is the difference between a deleted character and a loss of exp, so in fact I would like a greater loss than now maybe something like 25%.
If you are changing it because the feedback you should think about who cries for it and if then you want to satisfy them please make a poll

I did not mind the death penalty as it was, but think this is a very good compromise for the players who could not deal with the situation. But penalty should not be less than now. Even if there will be again whiners!

And what concerns the proposals of doing penalty in other ways, nope, I don´t like them and Qarl is 100% right about the psychological argument.

I prefer nice round numbers.

Cruel 5% Penalty
Merciless 10% Penalty
