Tyr's **0.11.1** Pure Elemental Bow Spec

I started having some survivability issues at 74 so took an alternate route.

Trade off was roughly
-90% crit chance
-18% cold dmg

for
+60% armor
+16% resist all
+78% ES
+10% life

With iceshot+WED+faster atacks sitting at 3400 dps, 2800 dps with light arrow plugged in.
What kind of prices are people paying for Wake of Destruction Boots? With my god awful mf i doubt i'll ever be able to afford them.
Other than Wake of Destruction and Death's Harp...what are some other Best in Slot items i should be on the lookout for?

I find the mana regen, quant, fire res % move speed of Goldwyrm very useful when farming. I probably used these more than Wakes in CB.

Windscream are excellent as well. 2x curses are incredibly strong for this build.

Maligaro's Virtuosity if you are more crit based.

Rhime Gaze has potential.

Anisath's Mark while lvling. (formerly Hyrii's Mark)

Dream Fragments is excellent for survival & can more or less fix all your mana problems in certain situations.

Since I was tired of death's on my 75 shadow I've decided to give a try the static blow ranger build. And frankly - I'm not going back to my shadow until GGG offers a full passive reset.

The DPS difference is negligible, both chars with the same gear can clear Docks with the same speed, in maps Shadow feels to kill stuff faster at the cost of having to be way more careful and thus much slower overall.

Ranger (SB build, 73lv vs Tyr's build 75lv Shadow) advantages:
- facetank nearly everything throughout the game (save for bosses and some heavy hitters) once you get iron reflexes at level ~12
- never worry about mana again (blood magic + loh/leech on both primary skills)
- crazy healing from loh on chained/lmp LA, I expect this to get nerfed at some point though
- enough healing from life leech w/ Frenzy to facetank rares
- never die from reflect damage aura again
- never miss (tradeoff for crits, but with the 68% hit chance in endgame I think it's worth it)

I've also ditched my Death's Harp for a Thicket Bow, feels so much better with the minigun style projectiles and ended up with 5560 dps single target Frenzy + 1260 dps with chained lmp LA (with 4.2k health and 5.2k armor).

HC Lvl 37

I'm being safe and keeping about 5 levels over the current monster level of the zone. HC has made me re-evaluate a few things, particularly summoned minions. Minon Speed and Raise Zombie are an essential part of my setup. I will likely take a few points for an additional minion, minion HP & damage.

Reflect Ele hasn't appeared yet but Im anticipating it in advance. Instead of Lightning Arrow as a primary attack I using an 11% Explosive Arrow. This allows me to stick and move, fire and run even more. Temp Chains plus fast zombies allows me to fly around the battlefield. Also, I forgot how useful EA is in tight dungeons like Catacombs.

I can stick a few EA arrows into the doorframe across the screen and the aoe blast will take out the necro on the other side. This build initially relied on EA & Amplify - Blast Radius to increase the blast damage & range. You can stack crit & take the burn damage passives for excellent effect. ...I wonder how well this would work with ranged attack totem + ele prolif...should test concentrated effect + fire penetration + flammability with EA as well.

Also, Im not just relying on Ice Shot & LA. Poison Arrow, Exploding Arrow, IS & LA being at my disposal saves mana when firing into highly resistant mobs. Just find the one that works best on the fly.

I still dont feel safe & that bothers me. Ive made up for this by being faaaaaaaaaaast :)

Spoiler

I have experienced similar on my Marauder. I wont ever be a fan of Resolute Technique however. Not enough single target dps. Blood Magic is preferable to mana if you have excellent HP regen, +HP on kill. The Covenant allowed me to test BM on the Marauder without having to take the Keystone. I hit a dps wall however, not having Arcing Blows is unacceptable. Significant DPS scaling simply will not happen without it.

Your single target Frenzy is good dps, but what do you use as a crowd stopper? Ice Shot and Fork is quite strong. Less dps hit and much cheaper than Chain. Excellent coverage.

Currently Im using a Thicket style bow to level. I do like the high aps. Having seen +115 Lightning Damage and +60 Cold Dmg on a Thicket linked in trade, Im not so sure DHarp will outgun that. The thicket bow I saw with perfect lightning and cold & increased attack speed mods is exceedingly rare however.

Thanks for the honest comparison. Would you mind posting a vid so we can see your ranger in action? Mind posting your current build? Thanks :)

Builds [shadow 75], [ranger 73] (going for the ele% nodes in the middle next).

I've recorded a quick vid of single map run; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdJC0_XlNBU.
Not the best quality as my PC is not really suited for recording gameplay and I was lagging a lot. Also, this was the first time I had 5 maps dropped within a single map which was unexpected.

As for the skills, I use Frenzy in single target setup (but the buff also carries over to LA), LA with LMP/Chain and Ice Shot on my totem.

The bow I use right now is

Obviously there are even better bows, but these go for some crazy prices.

I've also cleared a map with 20% reflected elemental damage modifier (mostly because it also had pack size modifier that I wanted), LA was able to keep me always at >90% hp without even having to use potions.

Vanzi, thank you. Your build/insight gave me an awesome idea for a Static Blows/Arcing Blows Blood Magic Shadow. I'm a fan of The Covenant armor... Were I to wear that and hack off the Southwest BM portion of the tree this would be realistic. I didnt realize the HP regen nodes in the middle either. I know the HP portion of the BM Shadow is solid. With Arcing Blows the dps will be solid.

I think I'll take my HC shadow in this direction. At 47, hes still a noobling but has Arcing Blows as well as Static Blows. Ill feel alot safer with the hp nodes in the center.
