Spoiler
Why evasion over armor?
Spoiler
The argument over these two mitigation tools boils down to consistency. Armor offers a steady stream of relatively predictable damage. It is then the job of the player to nullify that damage with enough life leech to have a net positive HP gain or even it out enough for potions to fill the gap. This strategy works great against mobs with low to moderate physical damage. However, because of the way armor scales against the power of a physical attack, anything with a high level of physical damage will cut through your defenses like paper.
Surprisingly this is where evasion shines. You might think the complete lack of mitigation would lead to getting 1-shot the moment your RNG fails and a hit manages to land. The reality is that against bosses like Kole, The Blacksmith or Vaal evasion and armor character get hit for very similar numbers. The only difference is that armor characters are getting hit hard every time where evasion characters have a lot time to recover from the last blow. Blind & Enfeeble
Spoiler
These two debuffs make or break your build. Both of them together can turn your paltry 50% chance to evade into a 95% chance on nearly every monster in the game including bosses. If you can help it try to have enfeeble active on everything and blind will happen naturally as you DPS. Buffer
Spoiler
"Can I survive a hit from this guy?" should be the question you ask yourself before you engage a boss. If the answer is no don't risk hoping for a perfect evade streak. Your goal should be to answer yes for everything. To that end it's best to combine ES and life to create two layers of buffer. This way no stat or skill point is wasted and you end up with more buffer with the same amount of points spent. This creates the interesting problem of healing both ES and life. ES is solved by using claws for the leech and picking up ghost reaver. Thanks to our fast attack speed we can make use of life on-hit to recover our life. The dual healing factor equates to a very powerful tank when your ES is broken because your ES and life will be recovering simultaneously. Stat Scaling
Spoiler
This build has the rare nature of benefiting from nearly every stat in the game. Nothing is wasted in your skill tree and very few affixex/ prefixes will go unused. Strength - More DPS and Life (more leech and buffer) Dexterity - More accuracy and evasion (more dps and core defense stat) Intelligence - More mana and ES (sustainable double strike and buffer) The Gear
Spoiler
- This weapon is pretty decent but I'd love one with more physical damage and accuracy. - The shield is good for now. Has most of what I could hope for. - This needs to be changed to an ES helm with life, resist and possibly accuracy. - Ideally I'd want a 6L ES/ EVA chest with the same stats but I'll need to save up a lot of currency! - OK for now. Decent rolls but a few wasted stats. Don't need block recovery or life regen. - Perfect Energy Shield roll but the lowest possible spell block. Spell block is more important. - Either a chain or leather belt will do. It needs a ES and Life on along with resists. - One of these needs to be switched out for a dream fragments. For the remaining slot I'd want a coral ring with Life, Mana Leech, Accuracy, and resists. Hopefully even ES. - Same as above. - Perfect 20. Can't get any better than that. The Bandit Rewards

Normal 40 HP Cruel Skill Point Merciless Endurance Charge The Gems
Spoiler
Double Strike / Multistrike / Melee Splash / Blind / Life Gain On Hit / Melee Physical Damage This skill is your bread and butter. It it's useful for both AoE and single target and provides blind spam with constant healing from life gain on hit. Your fast attack speed from the skill tree ensures that your life recovers rapidly and blind is applied quickly. This is vitally important because blind makes you nearly untouchable when combined with enfeeble and high evasion. Enfeeble / Enduring Cry / Increase AoE / Blood Magic This link provides essential utility. Enfeeble should be cast on as many monsters as you can because it raises your chance to evade and lowers the damage when you don't. To facilitate this increased AoE is used so you can blanket larger groups with fewer casts. Because of the frequency that this spell is used blood magic is included so that your limited mana is reserved for double strike. Enduring Cry tags along because it benefits from both blood magic and increased AoE. Whirling Blades / Faster Attacks / Blood Magic Your attack speed is so high that whirling blades surpasses your run speed. It also allows you to dart through packs of mobs to melee dangerous targets like necromancers or invincibility totems. You'll be spamming this a lot so blood magic is included. Remember to keep this ability at LvL 1. It's here for mobility rather than damage. Auras Grace / Discipline / Anger / Wrath / Purity / Hatred / Haste For non-% based auras use to apply them to your life bar. This minimizes the amount of life you reserve. Your auras require two four-linked pieces and one aura on your main/ off-hand slot. Each link that an aura is on should include a reduced mana gem. " Workin' on it XD Stay tuned! |
|
Im doing a shadow build similar to this, but play in onslaught. Do you think you could make something like this work without chuyula?
I was thinking of going CI for it instead, and possibly vaal pact, but I haven't played a character much past level 50ish, so I don't know how bad those stuns would be at later levels. |
|
" They can be pretty nasty. Fortunately you're near stun resist nodes and you have an ES which gives 50% chance to avoid as well. It could work with some tweaking. |

Hi.
I have a few questions : 1) Come to Anarchy! 2) 16000 Evastion right now ? :o How much chance to evade is that ? 3) How much Eva with flask of reflexes ? 4) I still don't understand how you faced Piety ice form, its projectiles are not spells ? Anarchy/Onslaught T-Shirt Owner.

" 1) I don't think I'll be doing anarchy this late into the season. I'm also not really interested in starting from scratch. The main reason I play this game is to come up with crazy builds and usually that requires a source of wealth. 2)Chance to evade shown on the character sheet is merely an estimation based on numbers we can't see. The reality is your chance to evade fluctuates wildly depending on what's trying to hit your and with what. I think the last time I looked at the number is was about 50% but it's actually much high due to enfeeble and blind. 3) I don't use evade flasks. I have no need to. My evade chance is so high that I'm more concerned with bringing my health back up quickly from bad situations. 4) The projectiles piety shoots in her ice form are projectile attacks rather than spells. Even though they look like ice lances they count as arrows shot from a bow and thus can be evaded with great effect due to Ondar's Guile. Last edited by Rumthorp#7442 on Jul 9, 2013, 11:00:53 AM

Anarchy is wonderful though ( i could help and give you some currencies to start :D if you give them back to me when you can ofc! )
So ice form is mainly physical! DAMN You just opened to me a hole new strategy to face Piety with my even craziest ( :P/ or not ) Build : The no node life no es ! ( YEP ) So i guess molten shell could explodeif its hit by those ice arrows ? ( probably ) In fact i had a hard time fighting her because her fire form is mainly ( if not completely ) fire dmg and fire dmg do not trigger molten shell. Oh and my main attack is molten. Life flasks have the suffix : of reflexes, nah ? Anarchy/Onslaught T-Shirt Owner. This looks fun :)
In both linked passive builds you have taken a +10 int node that you don't need (you reach the one after it via another route). It's just above shadow starting area. One up and one up-left from Mind Drinker node (2% phys dmg leeched as mana). If you want that int, there is a +30 node available on the outer highway between Ranger and Shadow. I might rebuild my old 1-handed melee ranger into this in a few years (need to get more wealth to get gear for that :D ) |

" I don't see it. Could you edit it and post it here? I'm all about efficiency! |
