Trinkets (similar to charms in Diablo) that go in the potions belt
Not too complicated an idea - if you have a character which doesn't need all 5 potions, instead you could slot in a little charm or trinket in the slot where a potion would otherwise fit, which would grant some minor stats and attributes. The trinkets could even have a single gem slot, which solves a problem in cut-throat that you might have no gear to hold your gems - since flask-slot items aren't dropped when you're killed in cut-throat, you'll still have the capacity to socket a gem and deal some damage.

This could be interesting. Maybe have them work like Signets in Guild Wars 2. Some passive benefit for just having it. When you have activate it, you lose the passive and the skill activates. Example (from GW2) is the passive benefit is a random buff every 10 seconds and the active is to give party member a copy of your buffs. The passive kicks back in when the cooldown is up.
You could have for example, a trinket that increases block rating, with the active being block the next attack. The recharge would be based on number of kills. The only problems is with the affixes, they could be hard to balance or come up with. For example an affix that reduces the time between activation and the return of the passive. Just a though |

I really like the Signet idea (maybe because I'm waiting impatiently for GW2). Affixes would probably have to be specifically tailored/customised since the goal isn't to provide players with large bonuses for having fewer flasks - that's simply a tertiary benefit. So you wouldn't have +25% increased rarity and +20% spell critical damage and lots of armor, instead you might have +2% increased rarity, +5% energy shield recharge reduction and +3% increased movespeed.
The crux of the item is providing a gem socket for the cut-throat league - all other features are secondary, but the item can't be so powerful that there's a clear choice. Small, hardly-noticeable bonuses fulfill this much better than large bonuses. IRON MAN

I believe that the devs have stated that they don't want anything just sitting in your inventory (or in this case or potion slots) just taking up space while providing bonuses.

" I'm just assuming that their opinion on inventory also applies to the potion slots. Sorry for any confusion. Last edited by DDSSEE#4807 on Aug 7, 2012, 11:59:26 PM

" I think potion slots and inventory space are very different. Now the Dev's may or may not like this idea (I think it is a really interesting idea) but I doubt they Dev's would view this the same way...potion space and inventory space occupy very different game mechanic spaces.... blah blah blah I ramble ramble ramble... but potion and inventory spaces are very different this could possibly work...at least it shouldn't just be disregarded as the same. Looking for more guild members for races/4 month hc leagues, pm for info

Why not just have them go into an unused socket?

" This would have to be something different since it doesn't at all fit in with the cut-throat-friendly goal I'm going for. IRON MAN

Well, you're SOL then, because if you'd read the Common Suggestions stickie you'd know that GGG is against charms/trinkets or anything that require you to sacrifice inventory space for a bonus.
