"Two rares of the same name", this extension makes it easy.

Great idea!
One other idea for calculated rows:
Implement sinergy criteria, so one can decide which item is more useful.
So for example you create sinergy tables. Say we take a bow. You can create following sinergy tables:
1. Physical synergy
Local Min Added Physical Dmg / Local Max Added Physical Dmg
Local Physical Dmg +%
Local Physical Dmg +% / Local Accuracy Rating
Local Accuracy Rating
Local Attack Speed +%
2. elemental synergy
Weapon Elemental Dmg +%
Local Min Added Cold Dmg / Local Max Added Cold Dmg
Local Min Added Fire Dmg / Local Max Added Fire Dmg
Local Min Added Lightning Dmg / Local Max Added Lightning Dmg
Local Attack Speed +%
Local Accuracy Rating
Cold Dmg +%
Lightning Dmg +%

After you scan a bow in player inventory, you check how much mods are found in single synergy table. And the more mods you find the more synergy rating item gets. For example if bow gets all its mods in elemental synergy table you put "100% elemental synergy" text in the calculated table. If the bow have "30% Physical synergy" and "40% elemental synergy" you just select the one with max % and put it in column.
The other idea is to detect item mods level and calculate how many of item mods have high level.

So for example take a bow again:
107% Local Physical Dmg +%
25-49 Local Min Added Cold Dmg / Local Max Added Cold Dmg
3-67 Local Min Added Lightning Dmg / Local Max Added Lightning Dmg
12% Local Critical Strike Chance +%
+3 Mana Gained On Enemy Death

You detect that
107% Local Physical Dmg +% (Prefix) -> is level 5 mod of level 7 max
25-49 Local Min Added Cold Dmg / Local Max Added Cold Dmg (Prefix) -> is level 7 of 9
3-67 Lightning Dmg -> it is actually two mods
Added Lightning Dmg 2 to 6 / 58 to 61 (Prefix) -> lv 5 of 9
Lightning Dmg +% 17 (Suffix) -> lv 3 of 5
12% Local Critical Strike Chance +% (Suffix) -> lv 1 of 6
+3 Mana Gained On Enemy Death (Suffix) -> lv 2 of 3

So total mods level is 5 + 7 + 5 + 3 + 1 + 2 = 23
Max possible mod level is 7 + 9 + 9 + 5 + 6 + 3 = 39

You put to calculated column: 23/39 * 100% = 59% Averege mod level

EDIT: You can simplify calculation. Do not detect mod type and level, instead just precalculate maximum possible values.
Example:
For mod Added Lightning Dmg you can precalculate that max mods are:
Local Min Added Lightning Dmg / Local Max Added Lightning Dmg 5 to 11 / 108 to 115
Lightning Dmg +% 23 to 26

So the value is 115 + 26% = 145.
Example bow has 67 max dmg, so it's 67 * 100% / 145 = 46% of max possible value

So ahh.. is it generally accepted that by using PoE Helper, you are not cheating?

Is it 100% safe to use?

Its kind of condoned, since there's no way to prevent from using it - it did not manipulate anything in the game, it only read the website's data of your account's chars. And its kind of open source, you can check what it does with the data/account information, probably nothing at all cause it doesnt need it to know.
