Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.

Round Robin loot system where if any item or gold drops, its split evenly between everyone.

Of course you cant split the loot of a single mob (other then the gold) but its expected that many many more mobs will be killed in the process, so it can be divided in that way.

Sure someone could get all the rares in a row with good luck but that's just apart of the game as it is.

If the item is above trash quality, then it should be posted the person who obtained the item so that their can be a better mutual agreement on trading off items to better suit the classes.

There will be issues where people will not agree to this and keep the loot to themselves, but my argument would be to play with people you can trust instead.

I admit that I have not read all 82 pages ^^

However, I think if really rare items drop it could be cool to have a "roll a dice option" that the team can enable. So if you want to roll for the item, you can, you may also skip.

I liked roll systems in many other games.
I didnt read all the pages either lol, but heres some suggestion:

(i am assuming that a friends list exist on the game)

- if the game has more than 50% players who are friends i mean 3 out of 4.. or something like that, then the loot system will work normally..
- if it has less than 50%, then as our friend above said, a round robin is activated, and we might also add a factor that you can't roll items that aren't equippable by your character (im also assuming that there are weapon restriction to some characters for example)
I liked the idea that someone raised (can't remember who) of dropping the items in a random place on the screen with a distance weighting nearer whoever it's been allocated to, that way a ranged class is less likely to have to move out of their "optimal firing poition" (if they're in one) to get "their" drops & if the melee class wants it they will have to stop fighting to go & get it (which would be a nice change)...

I think the system sounds fair. IMO, a free for all looting is absolutely a must for a game made in this style. And the time allocation for latency and run distance seems like a fair compromise.

Dankbeer,
Cheers!
Tomorrow comes today.
As far as free for all loot goes, one program commonly used for D2 (and similar programs for many other games) comes to mind... Pickit.

A 1-second timer wouldn't do much to stop this, I would personally prefer to just play solo as much as possible over dealing with the scavengers, which are abundant in EVERY game.

Everyone getting their own loot would be my preferred choice, as I would rather be able to finish killing everything, THEN look at what drops, as opposed to having to pick through items as the fight goes on.

Also if the skill demonstration video is any indication, some skill combinations would take roughly 1 second (possibly longer) to pull off, what happens when something good drops with the first wave of a multi-stage attack?

As is it's basically still free for all, which I could live with if I had to, I dealt with it on D2 for many, MANY years after all... I would personally prefer the timer to be atleast 15 seconds though.

That seems far more than fair to the players who prefer killing monsters over letting everyone else do the work, while they watch for items.
Lost in a wonderful world of VGM covers.

Well said, exactly my sentiment.
I don't think the original suggestion by Chris is a good one.

Its like speed cameras at the side of the road, you stop concentrating on the main task (driving) and spend all your time looking for cameras.

Just have a need / greed system like in Wow, can be played cutthroat or fairly.

Don't make us break from the action to run after loot.

Not in the beta yet, so I'm not sure exactly how it's working in game, but just some random thoughts on looting:

It would be nice if gold was auto-split and automatically looted, looting tends to be a hassle in boss farming runs with several mobs in similar games.

I'm not likely to play in public games myself, but as others have mentioned in this thread, a loot box with a roll window for items over a certain threshold, or a longer time on allocated loot would possibly give me more of a reason to venture into a pub game on occasion.

I'm not really a fan of everyone getting different loot, rolling on a rare drop between friends, or passing so someone else can get an upgrade can be fun and exciting.
I'm sure this has already been said but I have played my fair share of d2 in my day and I feel that another issue that was a huge problem was loot bots that insta grab all items. It was fun in the like first year and a half of d2 when the loot bots hadn't been created to see who was the fastest at grabbing items. In my opinion free for all just isn't viable for any game... IMO
