What does this mean? Players drop their loot when they die?

i think he means that ppl drop all there gear+ inventory on death.

dont think much ppl would go that way in a heavy item/loot based game :)

That's already confirmed to only be in the cutthroat league. Not the standard league.

Yes. Equipement or/+ Inventory.

Dropping your equipment in a game where all skills are also attached to items is basically equivalent to character deletion, except it's worse, because in Path of Exile, when a hardcore character dies, the player's account keeps the items from that character in their stash.

It's close to hardcore, anyway.

But don't discount the time spent leveling either - even naked and skill-less, a level 50 character is going to get back on their feet faster than it would take to bring a new character up to the same point.

Overall, I'd say that a penalty like this is best suited for the cutthroat leagues rather than the default.

(Also, while I'm here - agreed that a random death penalty is not the sort of thing you want for the default league either - just stick with the experience penalty and save the imaginative stuff for the custom leagues)

It will promote cooperative gameplay so much LOL

Stupid idea, period.

agreed. I want to steal as much other players loot as possible.
Cheaper than free... Speedtree
I understand the "adrenaline" rush of having items with a brief window of time in which they are yours. However, ultimately with this kind of system someone (or everyone) will just end up using bots to pick up things.

I am very against free for all looting. I understand the mentality to want to be different from D3, but having a very brief window of time to pick up an item will still end in plenty of players being hurt by bots, lag, exploits or otherwise. I don't think timed free for all looting should be included just for an adrenaline rush (I can already get that from fighting monsters and the thrill of discovery) or because you're all trying hard to differentiate yourselves from D3.

Cut throat or hard-core (maybe not this one since you get kicked soft-core) can have full looting I imagine, but good luck getting anyone except your friends to play with you. You might as well call it singleplayer. Anyone with any game design sense can see this.

Why did players still play D1 together with player kill and full looting? Because everyone could hack items into the game anyways, hence no real loss.

I have played MMOs with full looting and random player kill enabled (see "Face of Mankind"). No one EVER traveled anywhere with actual items of worth on them. Gangs of players just camped outside of teleporters and killed you. That game didn't even have any monsters in it (which would make it VERY easy for players to be killed). It was a terrible game. Don't do it.
If you'd rather not play in the cut-throat league(s), there's no one forcing you.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that free for all looting has anything to do with contrast with Diablo 3 - the arguments so far have all been about what sort of impact one loot system or another will have on the gameplay.

Also, this isn't an MMO, and camping outside of teleporters is just a mite difficult when you have to enter an instance first (at which point everyone inside said instance may well be alerted that you've joined).
