I thought about that too McBeanie, but there is one problem. To bind items to a person who dealt most damage, you would need a different variable for every single person who even dealt 1hp worth of damage. With 3-4 it's not that much of a problem. But imagine 10 people all hitting the same monster. You have 10 variables already. Now make it 20+ and see how the code works..
I think binding it to whoever kills it is easier for devs to implement and less code heavy. Of course I didn't see the code so maybe the developers have in mind something I didn't think about.

And don't say there won't ever be 20 ppl simultaneously fighting the same monster. It's only beta so bigger bosses will probably come along.
bind items to a person who dealt most damage or the last hit are totally stupid. Only mass DPS Builds would work then, i want to make a Supperter with 3 Auren, 3 Curses and Tank Minions? Yeahe, but i will never get any loot...

After some hours i must say D3 loot System >>> FFA in so many ways.

It's probably been said here before, but I'd like to reiterate, reading loot in the middle of combat is immersion breaking and possibly disruptive to cohesive teamwork, so it's bad. However, loot systems, arbitrary rules which are not forced in real life, are being ignored, which is good.

If someone of low level comes in and loots some items which the high-level players were looking at, can they then kill him and take his things and what he stole? Fairness and courtesy aren't easy to mimic in a virtual world, where anyone can act like a jerk.

Yes if you go with some random people. Make that support character, go with people you know and you will get your items, even if they pick them up first. Or play solo.

From the point of view of developers, who clearly stated they want a cutthroat feel, d3 system is completely pointless. You get only items YOU can use, individual but equal loot for everyone in a party. You can't even see what items others get.

That is about what I wanted to say with my earlier post, thanks. Just any simple alternative to pure FFA loot would improve party play a lot.
This seems to be the most fair/balanced system for looting. I, for one, am happy about it.
Personally the way loot is currently in the game is a big turn off for me. If loot isn't automatically divided I simply will NOT team with people I am not on vent with or skyping with that I know IRL. Otherwise I'll be playing solo.

I am not opposed to a hardcore league involving loot rules though, that seems fair to me.
I think, a simple word filter is enough.
(working like the "white filter" in the option UI)


Any word you type, will be filter and shown only that item(s) that match the word.
But it should be just 1 filter. No " + " for multiple filter. And similarly, it can be turned off.

This would fulfill the requirements for both side.
And also help filtering out the insane clusters of item drops that fill your screen.


Else, i think the loot system can be left as it is. OR implement it only for private league (or whatever league GGG choose).


to GGG - pls make the decission already, it going on for too long. If you want to experiment it, do it before OBT.
