Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
Updated April 30th
Concern lists:- reason for Free-For-All selection -there is a niche for cut-throat gameplay. reason for Non-Free-For-All selection -there is a calling for fair-play gameplay. ================================================ There is 3 solutions i am thinking of:- ------------------------------- Solution Alpha Just a simple timer for loot drops: Timer will starts when item 1st appears. Timer should be around 3 sec. (considering range player, lag-spike etc) There no need for player be close to the item, they should be priorized the items they are aftering. High-Level item drops will not be able to pick up by very low-level player, and vice-verse. (lets say a 10 level difference) High-Level item drops will not be able to pick up by lower-level player(lets say 5-level difference), until the player that pick up, dropped it.(no vice-verse here) Lets face it, meele player make use of range player, and range player make use of meele player. ---------------------------------- Solution Bravo What if there is a selection of items that you can choose of what to find (and priority be given to that) eg drop list:- -Orbs -any Magical Items -any Rare Items -any Normal Items -any 3/4 sockets items -any 5/6 sockets items -class items -everything Note: the drop list is just an example. BUT You can only select ONE of it. The point is, one player can only select one type from the drop list. Thus fulfilling what item that player looking for. If the items dropped happened to cross-link, well they have to contest for it. (eg. player A select Rare item, player B select 5/6 sockets. If an 5 socket rare item drops, they will have to contest for it.) Contest meant - 2-3 sec timer rule. The only worry i have, is what effect will it have on the load assets thingy. ------------------------------------ Solution Charlie All item drops will be assign to each player in the same area. (meaning each player will get one) Items drop will be based on their own individual % rarity and % quantity finds. Target items only drop for you, if you attack that target. Each is able to see theirs only. (even if item is ID and dropped by the owner) The only benefits that players get in a party, is the higher chance of better drop by attacking together at the same target mob. ===================================================== Finally thought, No rules, well it meant for the free-for-all-camper. (this should falls in cut-throat league nicely) Solution Alpha, I feel is more of a middle-camp. (this should falls in Default and Hardcore leagues nicely) Solution Bravo, I feel is more of the fair-camper. (this should falls in private league nicely or ) Solution Charlie, I feel can fit into middle-camper and fair-camper. (Default and private league should fit here) BTW, There will always be a niche for either no-rule gameplay or fairness gameplay. There should be an option for private league to select what type loot system (for GGG's client), its private afterall. Perm. Retired from this unforgiving land of the Exiles.

I thought I would just voice my oppinion on this matter.
FFA looting is boring unless you like the adrenaline from grabbing something you want or that is worth something before someone else you are fighting together with who might need it or want it. I dont find it fun to party when I consider the fact that I'm playing with people who are being greedy, not by choice but by design that they either trust their allies completely and either get lucky or get screwed over. So in short, my vote if for individual loot... to promote more partying and teamplay without worry of needing to steal or have items you need the most be stolen from you because someone else plans to make an alt or give the item to an alt or just simply trade it off. I want to play with other people, I want to constantly just ask people to do content together or just slay monsters because its simply more fun playing with more people... but not if FFA loot system is in place, it hampers the fun of it. Would it be possible for a default/hardcore league that has individual loot settings? I'll bet a banana that it'll be pretty popular... |

This is so much to read through, has it been proposed that each player sees different loot based on their own drop rate each time a monster is killed/something opened in their instance?

" I agree. At least there should be the option in party to "personalize" loot or something like that. The problem is that if you play in a party you either have to not care for loot at all or center the party experience around looting. No fun either way. I just stopped playing in a party at higher levels for that reason, if that is the "Cutthroat feeling" intended, good job... If you feel the need to nerf party play, make it less, but individual loot.. at least make individual loot an option. Some players might like the FFA loot system, but not everyone is like "greed is good". I love the game but I really hate the FFA loot system. |

" Updated May 4th Special Solution Zulu For godness sake, please add a filter lists for items. No, Not a loot system, but for items filter like the one in "option: filter white item". Its filling up the screen till one cant see where is the mob, if u turn it off. This may also solve the loot issue everyone worrying, as filtering help each player what they are looking for. And with the ideas Chris suggested in the opening, it may just work find. Perm. Retired from this unforgiving land of the Exiles.

i think Diablo3 has the perfect loot System, yeahe the rest of the Game is boring for me but the loot System is the best.
I wanto to focus on the Enemies and not on the loot in the middle of the Fight. And i think the idea in the First Post is not that bad but to complex for sth. that could be much more easier. Only my 2 Cents, i know many other love FFA but there are many who don´t like it. GGG must decide what they want. IGN: kReiZy

Well... It's a really though call for devs.
To sum it: There are 3 groups. 1. FFA 2. Co-op 3. Idc, w/e I'll be talking about first 2 groups ;) It looks like the FFA group is the largest one. But the Co-op one isn't small enough to ignore. The preferred loot systems of both groups are like poles of a magnet: It's either N or S or neither. I'm quite sure the 'neither' option won't be any good. The one group likes one system, The other group likes the other system. Doing neither disappoints all. Doing allocated system will chase away the FFA group, since the looting thrill is major part of the game for them. Doing FFA system will scare away Co-op group, since the co-op fight is the major part of the game for this group of players. As some of the Mod said, the devs can play the "it's our game, play it or leave it"-card. But then, this thread wouldn't exist. And from the sound of the first posting, they want to keep both groups of players. The only clean choice is the separation of these groups. There are plenty of good ways to separate both systems in one game experience described here. If the mixed-up solution isn't able to please both groups, the auto-separation will occur. It'll be either a FFA loot game or the team loot one. If there is no chance for separation left by the game design, I think one group will take over the game. The other group will divide into 2 parts. One will join the other group, the other will quit. ------ Now, there are multiple ways one can do it. 1. Choose one system and hope it'll please the most players and abandon the others (thus decreasing the total number of players) 2. Let each player choose the system he/she wants to play. If you go for №1, I'd suggest you let the player choose/switch the looting system for the open Beta and see how many are in favor of each way. |

I don't know if this suggestion was already posted before, I apologize in advance if it has but there is no way I will read 120 pages of replies.
What about an option where you can select either a free for all drop or dedicated drop? With this system you would only be able to party with people who chose the same drop system as you. I never lose.

" many already mentioned sht. like that and i think that would be the best option to satisfy the most players. The Idea in the first Post is way to complicated for a game like this. Let the Group Leader choose between FFA and Private Loot. IGN: kReiZy Last edited by sYkoDe4d#0481 on May 7, 2012, 1:50:33 PM
