Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.

I think that a roll system with a 2 sec timer to vote would be fine .... for rare items

And a tricky system :
- you win = you are out for next vote
- you vote yes = less chance next vote
- you vote no = more chance next time

other items .. i dont care

in diablo 3 every player sees a different set of loot.

another good style is rolling for rare items

I support the D3 system . Different loot for every player

in the party that only he/she can see/take . Pretty fair .
Kind of kills some of the meta game. The timer thing works best to allow ranged guys to get their loot. Having to be cut throat adds an element to groups. Do you trust them enough to kill mobs first? Do you risk making the run for the loot and hope you don't get killed in the mean time? Keeping the system to where everyone sees the same loot is the best idea in my opinion.

this will and already has created issues with getting parties.
i have been in beta for a little while now, lvl 27 and 60. and i have been in 2 parties, i look for groups everyday and i am not a greedy loot whore. i always say orbs that drop we go 1 for 1 on, and barely pick up anything at all..... but still people would rather play solo mainly IMO because of the loot system.
the current loot system will hurt and help the game depending on what type of players you end up playing with.
for me this loot system hurts the game more then it helps.

Agreed, the free loot system is a huge detriment to any kind of potential team work or inclination to play with others; especially for a game where item drops play such a huge role. I've got a few chars in the 40's and a few below 30 and have NEVER seen anyone asking for parties or looking for more members.

Assuming it was a free loot system, why would anyone play the ranged classes vs melee where you could scoop everything up quickly? It's a shame they couldn't implement some kind of roll or priority system for rares and up vs forcing the player to alter what they're doing just to go pickup loot. I have the D3 beta too and that system works perfectly and people in the beta ACTUALLY GROUP UP...it's a pretty crazy concept in comparison.
I haven't got into the game yet (no key) but with so much depending on the loot, the danger of getting stuck with a loot whore would be a turnoff to running with a party of players you didn't know.

This would be a shame really since one of the main attractions for this type of game for me is partying up with other players you don't know. If this is undermined I would think it would reduce the overall game outside of the hardcore PvP leagues. This would reduce it's appeal to a lot of players.

I would love to play the game but without cooperative parties it doesn't sound as much fun. That's the one thing which keeps me coming back even after I've done the game itself and got tired of it. eg: in Guildwars I played daily in support of my guild for a long time, when the guild collapsed, I found I was bored with the game itself and stopped playing.
gra jest super
Complete free for all is inherently unfair and unbalanced for reasons already mentioned while permenently allocated loot really does negate a lot of the emotion experienced when competing with others for that elusive drop. I think the question isn't whether to have a timed allocation system but rather how much time and whether to display the timer.

Definitely build the system in. The amount of allocation time can always be balanced later, and a percentage scalar for loot allocation time can also be made a league configuration option.
The whole FFA looting will just make me play alone. You play for hours, even days looking for rare items, rare orbs, and when you finally get it, you risk it being taken by a friend. That doesn't sound fun to me at all.

If they just take your shit first chance they get, why are you playing with them?

Don't forget that it's you who chooses who you're playing with.
Just play with some REAL friends and that won't be an issue as you'll just share all resources anyway.
