A Guide to Successfully using poe.xyz.is

I often had people messaging me about buying my character's gear when it was explicitly stated that it wasn't for sell, only for trade for an upgrade. In the end I took out that section.

Thank you for removing items that are not actually for sale from your shop. That's the kind of trading post that pollutes POE.XYZ's search results with unobtainable items. It's often quite time-consuming to dig through the nested Spoiler tags in a shop in search of a listed item, only to find it hidden in a "My Gear - Not For Sale" section at the bottom of the post.
Also be polite. Nothing irks me more than when someone whispers me with very crude language. If you can't take 10 seconds to type a coherent sentence and add a greeting to it then I don't have the patience to offer you a discount. Full price or nothing dammit.

If someone contacts me, takes the time to greet me and treat me like a person instead of a hopeful "steal" then I'm more than willing to give huge discounts.

not sure if already mentioned:

- once you find an item(s) you are interested in, before clicking the item link to go to the forum post etc - click the verify button to check if item is still available.

A guide to successfully using poe.xyz.is:

1. When searching for your item, always find 3+ candidate items. From there, attempt offers in parallel.
2. Before trying to contact a seller, always check to see that they have an activity date on the web site that is very recent.
3. Prefer shop based sellers if you can: they just want to clear inventory, most of the time.
4. If you must send a PM to the seller, try to write a nice (short) personalized letter. Make them want to like you, at least a little.
5. Avoid PM's if you can. Instead, search the account of the seller to see if they have an IGN. If they don't have it in their shop thread, they might have it in an offer they have made elsewhere. Attempt a whisper.
7. Always have a good idea of what you'll pay for an item and what the item is worth. Always bid what you think the item is worth. Do not try the Soupy Sales routine.
8. It's not always a good idea to ask what someone wants for an item. People often do not know what items are worth, and therefore will highball you. It's usually best to offer about 1 alc less than what you think it's worth, to give them just enough wiggle room on a counter to get your item.
9. Your time = money. If paying 1-2 alc more than the item is worth saves you personal time, I'd suggest doing that.
10. Take some time to make sure that the item you are buying is not in the seller's vanity/upgrade list; these items aren't for sale, and you are wasting your time and theirs if you inquire about them.
