A Guide to Successfully using poe.xyz.is
A guide to successfully using poe.xyz.is:
1. When searching for your item, always find 3+ candidate items. From there, attempt offers in parallel. 2. Before trying to contact a seller, always check to see that they have an activity date on the web site that is very recent. 3. Prefer shop based sellers if you can: they just want to clear inventory, most of the time. 4. If you must send a PM to the seller, try to write a nice (short) personalized letter. Make them want to like you, at least a little. 5. Avoid PM's if you can. Instead, search the account of the seller to see if they have an IGN. If they don't have it in their shop thread, they might have it in an offer they have made elsewhere. Attempt a whisper. 7. Always have a good idea of what you'll pay for an item and what the item is worth. Always bid what you think the item is worth. Do not try the Soupy Sales routine. 8. It's not always a good idea to ask what someone wants for an item. People often do not know what items are worth, and therefore will highball you. It's usually best to offer about 1 alc less than what you think it's worth, to give them just enough wiggle room on a counter to get your item. 9. Your time = money. If paying 1-2 alc more than the item is worth saves you personal time, I'd suggest doing that. 10. Take some time to make sure that the item you are buying is not in the seller's vanity/upgrade list; these items aren't for sale, and you are wasting your time and theirs if you inquire about them. I like this thread.
Luna's Blackguards - a guild of bronies - is now recruiting! If you're a fan of our favourite chromatic marshmallow equines, hit me up with an add or whisper, and I'll invite you!

good guy courageous
:) Also, 10) Avoid sellers with bad reputations/dodgy practices or a personality so caustic/arrogant it shows in their shops like; "Lowball idiots will be ignored" "SUPER GOSU #1" "C/O 10 exalts on these Wondertraps" Last edited by H4xolotl#7857 on May 18, 2013, 12:34:36 PM

Let me add one tip:
Actually find the item you want to buy in the seller's post. I often had people messaging me about buying my character's gear when it was explicitly stated that it wasn't for sell, only for trade for an upgrade. In the end I took out that section. Also some people messaged me an offer higher than the buyout I had listed. It leads me to think people don't even read the sale thread and just send a message to the IGN they found listed on poe.xyz. I'd add: Once you trade for items, any items at all, there's no bitching about drop rates allowed.

Good tip, Tryzx. I've been burned by this once or twice as a buyer. I'll add.

I found that site by accident one night and have used it ever since.
Sucky thing is that alot of the best gear belong to people that have long quit and don't respond to threads/PMs. |

Another tip for those selling:
List a buyout. I believe the format is ~b/o x <orb>, either in the spoiler or before(?) the item tag. Usually whenever I search for items, I check for people who use buyout tags first and prefer dealing with them because price comparisons are much easier and they generally want quick and painless trades, much like me. Only when I search for an item that returns no buyouts do I go through each individual thread. IGN: Ikimashouka, Tsukiyattekudasai, DontCallMeMrFroyo
