So I was reading and planning around this build yesterday and now that i've seen the update notes I've noticed Cast on damage taken was nerfed quite a bit, how does this affect the build now? Good job BTW

As the build worked really great even before CoDt was added to the game, I don't mind the gem getting nerfed. Sure, it is nice to have Enduring Cry and Molten Shell being casted automatically, but not needed to survive, for almost all situations you are tanky enough without those skills.
After the nerf you can still use lvl 5 EC linked to lvl 1 CoDt, gives less E-charges, sure, but better than nothing. "The track of your life has come to me, and it goes no further. I am your end, your utter obliteration!"

i just wondering it's better keep CWDT on lev 1 and EC on 5 or leveled up CWDT and keep EC on higher lev?

After deciding to make the build anyway knowing the change in CWDT, I played around a bit with different support gems. One that I found worthwhile to an extent is warlords mark. I've basically kept this a level 5 gem (level 31 required) as I find this to be optimal without having to increase CWDT too much to lose effectiveness. Due to the splash, explosion dmg etc I tend to be able to keep up endurance charges this way without using EC. I now also link it to EC as a fail save.
What do you guys think? Edit: On second thoughts, enfeeble is still probably a better bet! IGN: Munkehboi Last edited by Munkehboi#6500 on Nov 13, 2013, 7:24:01 PM

I've never needed endurance charges for anything other than a boss fight. So having to use a low level EC doesn't bother me a bit since it will still give me a charge against a boss. I will prob go back to casting curses manually. What I really dislike is not having free insta cast molten shell. I have been working on alts lately and haven't tested CwDT since the patch, but I am guessing 100% uptime on MS is over.

" Any chance you could share your updated gem set up for the less knowledgeable? :) |

" The thing is... I haven't been on my mara since the CwDT gem was changed. So, no I really can't share an up to date gem setup. I can tell you what I am thinking however, and that is level 1 CwDT linked to a level 5 Enduring cry with 20% quality, a level 2 arctic breath (for the ice patch slow), and a level 8 molten shell. In addition, if I have room, I plan to have a fully leveled CwDT gem linked to level 20 molten shell, level 20 arctic breath, and level 20 increased duration. I have not fully tested this yet, so this may not even be optimal. But it is what I am thinking about running. Currently I am working on 2 alt builds that I am pretty invested in, so I am not sure when I will get around to testing/leveling this gem setup. DISCLAIMER!

Started this build a week ago, this will be my 2nd char after a lvl 78 Shadow. I'm quitting the shadow because it feels like it's made of glass, and after watching Dragon's vids I really miss the in-your-face attacks and tanking capabilities of a "real" melee tank. Having said that I'm not rich by any means, but I still want to try and play this build and maybe get to the end-game equips after some months. So far I'm lvl 30 and I'm using low-lvl 2 handed uniques with IB and I'm pretty much 1 hitting everything except blue monsters and uniques of course (I'm expecting gear checks quite soon tho). I feel it's still too early to switch to shield + 1 handed weapons. I will try and post later on how the gameplay and the build in general are developing.
This build seems like an incredible challenge to new players without deep pockets, even Dragon dubbed it a "Legacy" build a few pages back. I'm expecting I will have to run for a long time with a Crest of Parandus and a 300dps axe. However I feel the end game and the power this build has makes it worth it in the end. Thanks to everyone who's contributed and to Dragon for the build. |
