Chaos Acolyte [Poison Arrow, Viper Strike, Shock] [IR/EB/MoM/AA] Potential 1.2.0 Tree in Latest Post
If you can't proliferate Shock and ever feel you're not doing enough damage, the best thing to do is grind experience to level your Poison Arrow and Viper Strike up or buy new weapons with additional gem levels. Also make sure you're always using Vulnerability. Damage shouldn't be a problem as long as you gain experience for the gems as soon as you can equip them and on.
Also, I changed the name of the build because I don't want people coming to it looking for a Diablo 3 Crusader-type build. The first post has also been updated here and there. same name in-game

So Empower is out, and people speculate that it provides +X to Gem Levels. I've been waiting for a screenshot for proof but meh, whatever.
If it does, here are some estimated advancements provide give Viper Strike and Poison Arrow based on their known damage progressions: Level 24 Viper Strike: 832.2 Chaos damage per second per viper charge. Poison Arrow: 1182.5 Chaos damage per second from the poison cloud. Maximum DPS (including Death's Oath): 16322.7 Level 25 Viper Strike: 948.7 Chaos damage per second per viper charge. Poison Arrow: 1359.9 Chaos damage per second from the poison cloud. Maximum DPS (including Death's Oath): 18439.8 same name in-game

What about Puncture+Melee Splash?
|
|
" In the case of this build, it really wouldn't work out. Puncture's degeneration is based on the initial hit of the skill, unlike Viper Strike and Poison Arrow. This build doesn't focus on taking any of the damage nodes found on the passive skill tree because they don't affect either of its two main skills, Also, you sacrifice three modifiers on your melee weapon to make the best out of Viper Strike (+1 to Gem Levels, +2 to Melee Gem Levels, increased attack speed), which doesn't leave [much] room for damage modifiers. A fully melee version of this build with Viper Strike and Puncture + Melee Splash could work, though. At the beginning of my planning I did want to employ Puncture because it works with both bows and some melee weapons. It turned out to be just to much of an investment to make it work better than focusing on just Viper Strike and Poison Arrow. Edit: I'm currently reworking the build to include the use of Empower for Poison Arrow and Viper Strike. It may now finally require a two-handed sword to make best use of the latter because of the need for extra sockets. Exciting times ahead! same name in-game Last edited by iao#2860 on Sep 6, 2013, 7:34:40 PM

" 3 sockets are still good viper + multistrike + empower |
|
" That's true, but the added benefit of Blind is also very powerful. I guess it depends on preference. same name in-game

I've updated the first post substantially. It now includes information about Empower and a new (though unfinished) section for equipment choices. Most sections in the second post have been reformatted as well.

I've updated the damage calculation with the actual base damage of a level 26 Viper Strike's Viper Charge: 1069. It was just a little under what was estimated.

if the poison cloud scales with concentrated effect i can't begin to imagine how overpowered it would be. 1300 * 1.4 * 1.66 = 3000 chaos degen per second. Will probably be able to beat any mobs. Pvp will probably only lose to koams and ci.... and i'm not sure about koams.
