Does PoE greatly benefit from a CPU's 3D V-Cache?

No it's not broken.

If it's not broken, you don't need a 9800X3D. You'll need a new motherboard and possibly RAM, too. The new Ryzens like DDR5 5600-6000 RAM.

My 13700K was working really well for this game. I just got lucky with how everything panned out that I now get to switch to a new platform with better power efficiency for almost the same price. I wouldn't have done it if mine wasn't causing problems. The power I would have saved would never have made up for the cost of a new CPU and motherboard.

Instead of returning the i5-12400 and selling my old mobo, I decided to make a backup PC. Maybe I'll stream some PoE 2 as well. :D

Just watched your comparision video with the i5. Can you please let us know your
experience with the 9800x3d. I'm also on the fence with a 13700k, not sure if I should swap prior to poe 2.

I have the 9800x3d. Performance is significantly better than my old 5800x3d, but I'm still CPU limited near constantly in PoE in endgame juiced mapping.

In other words, the 9800x3d is great, but nowhere near powerful enough to run PoE to perfection.

It'll set me back probably $600 CAD once I include the new motherboard, memory and selling my current parts.

You're right though, it's not needed in my case. I should wait a bit at the very least.

How often were your degradation issues happening with your 13700k?

I bought it back in January 2023 and it was basically fine until middle of October 2024. That's when I got my first kernel-power error (random reboot).

Then nothing for 3 like weeks, then suddenly 1-3 times a day within a week. And it happened when basically doing nothing but browsing the web or Steam. Didn't crash once in the same period when I was playing PoE. Super weird.

Never had the issues described by others, such as the out of video memory error, but I know for a fact it was the CPU because these random reboots stopped after I swapped in the i5-12400.

Edit: Oh, I forgot to mention that the CPU would also gradually become hotter over time, with more random heat spikes. Cinebench benchmarks would hit 89-92°C, whereas before it would hit around 83-85°C, with fresh paste and a sufficient cooler (Arctic LF3 420 with 6x 140mm fans, push-pull).

Any luck with RMA?

Yeah, got a full refund from the retailer, then bought a new mobo and 7600X3D. :)
