Nameless Seer Spawns

Yep, gotcha
I found one. I think part of the problem, other than the RNG, might be it's hard to notice when it has spawned. I found this to be the case last league as well.

I was in an ultimatum then went to interact with something in between the mobs then saw it was the seer. No idea when it spawned and probably might of missed it if I wasn't in the circle. This was on cemetery, not DC. Was about 90% through the map. Map had a lot of mods, I think 8 corrupted plus some more from scarabs.

found him many times, he is just hard to notice. almost missed him a couple of times.
This is something strange with some maps, for sure. I run a lot of Crystal Ore, I believe I have ran over 500. I have found the nameless seer at least 15 times, the black knight 10-15 times, the mist 20+ times (only 1 time gave me the mist, others were just ring choices.

Then I ran Burial Chambers - I have ran over 100. Not a single seer, and not a black knight. I did get mist 3 times. This isn't a case of missing him. I have the map overlay on all the time, and his name is clear as day.

Either his spawn rate is truly extreme RNG, or there is something that triggers this type of behavior. Wouldn't doubt they put some logic in there to make some maps take way longer, or to work against it being your favorite map, etc... Look, we all know RNG is RNG, but something is clearly off.

Another thing I noticed is that the div card "Friendship" never dropped once for me. I happened to get two brother's gifts, however. They are weighted similarly... The brothers gift were just random shit from the altars. So either the base drop rate of div cards is complete shit, as it, 10-20x worse than the previous league, or some of this shit is bugged. Perhaps certain interactions or certain maps triggers this. It sort of reminds me a few leagues ago when I specced into the "special trials" (golden ring), when I first did it, I found them all the time. Then I redid my atlas (and still specced it though) and went over 200 maps without it. I gave up, but I sense certain things on the tree can bug out.

I recall entropy being a thing they programmed for evasion - why not implement it for this scry feature? Why must it be 100% entirely RNG? Ok, I am done ranting.
I've read some people saying they think it might spawn off the last last monster of a mob type, like it did last league. Don't know if that is accurate but would be interesting to see a distribution of how far into the map he is spawning.

If it's say a 1% chance to spawn on a map there will be some pretty big swings. Using binomial about 35% of people will not find it in their first 100 maps, and over 1% will find it 4 or more times. For 500 maps most people would find between 2 and 10 times, but still about 6/1000 people will not find it.

I don't know if they need a pity or entropy system, I don't think it's that important. There's RNG on everything, I think people mostly want this for apothecary, so there's other layers of rng then involved. It reminds me a bit of before they changed the lab entry requirement and some people would get all six straight away, others were stuck searching for one they couldn't find. I don't think this is as important as 4th ascendancy but some people are seeing it as a requirement, rather than an added bonus to run a map setting that you otherwise wouldn't be able to.

I can only speak for myself, but that is not the reason. I'd take any decent card, such as fortunate, brothers gift, I see brothers, etc... It would make more sense to somewhat standardize the weightings based on their relative value (not using trade-league, though, since that skews everything). I am glad the broke up the div cards like they did, as it only had people running a couple of meta maps (usually just one or two) - But still, why introduce a QoL system and gate it behind a torture grind? Again, I get it - they didn't have to give us the option.

For one thing, it makes sense to gate lopsided valuable cards on terrible maps. But they have not done that historically. Crimson Temple was a great map, and Defiled Cathedral is pretty decent too. Imagine a phased bosses and a poorer layout, like say, Basilica or Maze. But, again, they didn't do that. In 3.25 it looks like they sort of did that, but kept apothecary in a decent layout. The also put brothers gift in a decent map, but a map that everyone is burned out on. Thematically, it makes sense. I am sort of rambling here, but the point I think many of us are making is if you are going to have horrible RNG on this "Play it your way" concept, then it should be reasonable for everyone to get it. I certainly don't think it should be easy or a given, but I don't support a super rare RNG for a QoL feature. It is clear that some people are not getting the seer either at all, or in any map they actually want it in. I wouldn't be surprised if the weight of the div card factored into the seer.

One other comment, sometimes it isn't about getting a more efficient map, but getting one that you enjoy. I usually hate really dark maps, so things like beach or shore are beautiful to map in. Surely, not just a linear type layout, but again, it isn't all about efficiency for most people, it is really about playing a map or maps you enjoy.

Edit ** Just ran another 50 maps today, for a total of 150. No seer. The atlas tree and map regex's are the exact same as my Crystal Ore maps, for which I have seen the seer countless times. While I did run that map more (~500), I saw the seer more than a dozen times. Not only that, but encountered the black knight just as often and mist about twice as often as both of those. Out of the 150 Burial Chambers maps, I have gotten the mist now 3 times only, and ZERO black knights and ZERO seers. This is statistically different from running my other main map. Not only that, but the consistency for those maps were there. It wasn't like I got the seer 5 maps in a row, then went 200 without it; they were consistently spaced apart. Just frustrating. I'll run a few hundred more burial chambers, but I might just call it quits if I still don't get it. The other really strange thing? I have not even had a natural "Brother's gift" drop in that map. Even stranger, out of 500 maps of Crystal Ore, I never got the "Friendship" card either. I did, however get "Brothers Gift" in Crystal Ore via Eater Altars on two different occasions. At this point, maybe div card farming is dead? Div cards from altars have been the only valuable div cards I have gotten this league. I even double checked my filter, because I am like, WTF, does this Friendship card even drop? Not evening farming it, honestly. Just curious. Wondering if it is bugged, among other things.

Yeah sure, I over simplified, it's not just apothecary anyone might be using to farm a specific card, perhaps in SSF as well. So think its actually a good system for that. Perhaps the rng is too much, they could increase the spawn rate, the other rewards are usually pretty bad from most of what I've seen. I would of had trouble selling any of the offered items for 1c. It's a fine line though with making it overpowered for farming uniques. They could also have something like the first one has a much higher chance to spawn, so people don't get gated by it, a bit like getting an easy path through eldritch bosses the first time. Then you have to do a bit more if you want to get more set up.

This is definitely a visibility problem. Maybe rng as well, but they are really hard to see. Just found another one on amour map but only by accident. I'd cleared most map including boss. I had a strong box that hadn't popped and was running around trying to find a single monster to pop it (turned out to be a unique corrupted growth that was just there not moving, never seen that before). Anyway I ran half way back across the map and found a seer spawn that I hadn't noticed while clearing the map. Seems to me like it needs more visual effect when it spawns. He's not very big and even the cross hair marker isn't as noticeable as some other boss map markers like beyond or simulacrum, especially with all the content icons on the map. Audio queues might also help, I assume it's got one but I haven't noticed what it is yet. Think it sounds like an expanding wave or air pressure release or something, but it's not noticeable like the portal to wildwood or the new underground boss which you see every time.

Follow-up. This morning I switched my maps back to Cystal Ore. First map, I got the black knight. 7 maps later, nameless seer. Can't make this up. It literally only spawns on a map I couldn't care less about. Again, this is not a visibility thing. Also, of note, the spawns for me are almost always near the end of the map. I believe all 15+ nameless seer spawns on Crystal Ore were on the last hallway before the boss room. That said, I do enjoy the Crystal Ore map, but I just wish it had a decent div card. I am farming up some more 8-mod burial chambers and will give it another 50 or so, but if I still fail to spawn him there, gonna have a very negative view of the league. This sort of thing isn't RNG at that point as far as I am concerned, it is trolling from GGG. I mean, I map Cystal Ore, see Black Knight and Nameless Seer fairly often, switch to Burial Chambers, get nothing. Switch back to Crystal Ore, spawns resume at their normal rate. This feels like a big FU from GGG.

How do you know it's not rng though? I'm not saying you are wrong, it could be possible that the spawn doesn't approach a random distribution based on some characteristics like map type. How do you know what you've encountered isn't rng though?
