" Note: it may well be I have made mistakes below. It was done pretty quickly. The assumptions may also be wrong or inaccurate. But hey...its free advice. Assuming that Maze doubles the size of the map and thereby the mapdrops, your map has a virtual % of: (100 for a white map + 69%)*2 = 338%. Assuming that packsize of 50% adds 50% to that, the virtual % becomes 507% An exalt will add 25% (guess) to the Map IIQ, making the map: (100 for a white map + 69% +25%)*2 = 388%, add 50% for Packsize and you get 582% for a gain of 75% Assuming that Shipyards can be bought for 3 exalted (and you have no moral taboo of doing so), spending the exalt on another Shipyard, will get 0.33 of a Shipyard. For a relatively minimal outlay (4 chisels and about 7 chaos, which will be ignored in further computations as it also should be divided by 3) you get a Mazed Shipyard of about 50% which will be: (100% for a White Map + 50% IIQ)= 150%, multiplied by 2 for the Maze = 300%, divided by 3 (as you can only buy 1/3rd of a Shipyard) = 100%. So: - exalting will give you on average 75% gain - not exalting and saving the exalt towards buying another Shipyard will give you an average 100% gain Based on the (many) assumptions above: do not exalt this Shipyard. Intuitively, I think this shows that exalting any Shipyard is at best a break-even situation, since this Shipyard is pretty optimal (only Magic or Rare monsters makes it better, and this would lower the map IIQ considerably), leading to: Flapdrols 2nd Theorem: Maps should never be Exalted. Sweet i just started looking into mapping and this is a great resource for beginners like me that had almost close to no experience with mapping :)
Is this real life ? Last edited by Iths#4570 on Aug 26, 2013, 7:05:26 AM

For shits'n'giggles.
Bill wants to go out with a bang. I have 2 ex and little else. Bill has ~1300 alts, 30 regals, a couple of divines, 5 ex and an eternal.
Let's see what happens.
Spoiler
Stage 1 complete, go Bill, lol.
Eternal time? -------------------------------------------- FUUUUUUUU Decided not to eternal yet. Time to scour. -------------------------------------------- Stage 1 complete again. Still won't eternal yet. -------------------------------------------- Meh!! Scour. -------------------------------------------- Stage 1 complete again. -------------------------------------------- /sigh. -------------------------------------------- Stage 1. -------------------------------------------- Interesting. -------------------------------------------- Stage 1, alternatively. -------------------------------------------- Meh. -------------------------------------------- Stage 1, alternatively. -------------------------------------------- Again??? -------------------------------------------- In RNGesus we have faith. -------------------------------------------- Hmmmmmm. -------------------------------------------- Stage 1 alternatively. -------------------------------------------- Seeraayooslyyy..Seeraayooslyyy..Seeraayooslyyy!!! -------------------------------------------- 730 alts, 20 regal to go. -------------------------------------------- Really tempted. -------------------------------------------- Half way through alts. -------------------------------------------- Not again!!! -------------------------------------------- Are Nessa's bewbs actually out, or what? -------------------------------------------- Ermaguuurd, das pool sheet, whadafek? -------------------------------------------- Gimme, gimme, gimme. -------------------------------------------- It's gone full Panko. -------------------------------------------- Alts going down quicker than regals, proportionately. Need to regalise some Maze + quant, but.. -------------------------------------------- Heavy debating going on. -------------------------------------------- WTF is with this stunned shit? -------------------------------------------- Yawn. -------------------------------------------- There's a pattern here, but as I'm human, it can't exist. -------------------------------------------- Pizza for y'all 000101110011111001011 -------------------------------------------- Nope, there's a pattern. Guess I'm no human after all. -------------------------------------------- "This isn't a currency sink, it's a fucking black hole" ~BillNRND 2013 -------------------------------------------- :/ -------------------------------------------- ~_^ -------------------------------------------- Much debating to be had. -------------------------------------------- Coin landed tails, why is it always tails? -------------------------------------------- 250 alts, 10 regals left. I like this one, at least a bit. -------------------------------------------- It seems I was outvoted 1:1. Wait! What? Throwing some curved balls in now to use up regals. -------------------------------------------- Pondering using up exes, wish these affixes would follow champs/hordes. -------------------------------------------- Using up dem regals. -------------------------------------------- Crafting, yo. -------------------------------------------- "This is it" ~BillNRND 2013 and a bit. -------------------------------------------- Down to 120 alts, the regal wasn't great, but wasn't bad. We have to eternal now. :O -------------------------------------------- Chilled, Command, Fire dmg. -------------------------------------------- All in now, alt-regals. 3 ex to use on the imprint or a better regal if it comes. -------------------------------------------- Alts gone, imprint restored. 3 yolo exes to go. -------------------------------------------- Burning, totems, recovery. -------------------------------------------- YOLO Casually casual.

Hi, there. I'm a long time user of the guide but a first time poster. I just wanted to say thanks for all of the great work and research that you guys have done. Hopefully this guide will keep getting updated with new information and research that surfaces (see http://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/1l0ua3/i_ran_1000_maps_and_recorded_what_maps_dropped/).
With that said, I had some questions about the mods that implicitly add quantity (Maze, Area Size, Pack Size, Magic Monsters, Rare Monsters). I've been objectively rolling my maps with a minimum threshold in mind. So for example, right now, I need atleast 70% IIQ on my nonchiseled 70 maps to run them. How I account for quantity on the implicit quantity mods is somewhat arbitrary. For area size and pack size, I take 60% of the rolled mod. For magic monsters, I take 20% of the rolled mod, and for rare monsters, I take 10% of the rolled mod. For two unique bosses I add an extra 5% quantity. So for example, let's take this map: The map has roughly 50% IIQ and 50% area size. This is a 1.5 modifier with 50% area size. Like I said, I arbitrarily value area size at 60% of the stated value. So, 60% of 50% is 30%. That means that the area size gives a 1.3x modifier. Because this modifier is applied before the quantity bonus, to find the total increased quantity on the map, I do 1.5 x 1.3. This gives me a total quantity modifier of 1.95, which is higher than my threshold 80% for 71 maps. I used conservative values for accounting for implicit quantity mods; I think 60% for area and pack size is a very fair number. With the calculation shown above, even decent area and pack size rolls add huge amounts of quantity to the map simply because the modifiers are multiplicative in this case. My question arises from "Why is 90% without pack size equivalent to 80% with pack size? Even with the worst pack size roll (20%), a 1.8 x 1.12 modifier is still higher than 90%. Am I interpreting the implicit mods incorrectly or are these mods really as valuable as I think? Last edited by AmanPoE#4954 on Aug 26, 2013, 3:00:08 PM
