Map Management Resource
You are over-chaosing your maps.
You spent 50 chaos and 4 chisels on a "super Maze", but you could also have spent: 32 chaos to buy another Bazaar, and (on average) 2 x 6 Chaos to Maze both to an average Maze. 50 chaos + 4 chisels on a Super Maze Bazaar or 44 chaos + 8 chisels on two Average Maze Bazaars. Dear Maligaro,

" There is something rather important you are missing, in my post.

And that today's gamers, and developers, are missing on the whole

Ah...the word "self-found".
In that case, 50 chaos will not have come easy either. 17 rare amulets, 34 rare rings, and a large amount of scraps and whtstones take quite some time to gather. Dear Maligaro,

not sure what i should do with this...
and a general question: usually i try to maze maps like arach.nest. but what if i get a really nice one with quantity >90% and no bad mods(for my build)? would you still continue to chaos that or run it? example: btw, thanks for the amazing thread @ OP. this helps so much! First one needs a reroll, second one I am less sure about.

Note: the Guide (an excellent piece of work) assumes maps cannot be bought. Please ignore the analysis below if you play self-found or have moral problems with buying maps.
Assumptions: 1) 71 costs 5 chaos on the open market in Standard. 2) You will get 170% from an average non-Maze rare map (100% for the map itself and 70% from it being rare) 3) an average Maze will double the map area and add 50% quantity for a total of 300% (2x 150%) 4) chaos-rolling a Maze costs 6 chaos on average (my estimate after 250 attempts) 5) 4 chisels cost 2 chaos 6) alchemy orbs have negligible cost (to make calculations simple) Flapdrol's Theorem: Buying 71 maps has a higher expectation than chiseling 71 maps and/or chaos-rolling mazes on 71 maps. Proof: Question #1: Should I chisel 71 maps?
Spoiler
- 7 non-mazed rare unchiseled 71 maps cost 35 chaos and will give you a total of 1190%
- 5 non-mazed rare chiseled 71 maps cost also 35 chaos and will give you a total of 950% Question #2: Should I chaos-roll 71 maps until I get a Maze?
Spoiler
A chaos-rolled Mazed 71 map will cost you 11 chaos on average
A non-mazed 71 map will cost you 5 chaos on average Then: 5 mazed 71 maps will cost you 55 chaos on average and deliver 1500% 11 non-mazed 71 maps will cost you 55 chaos on average and deliver 1700% Question #3: Should I chisel and then chaos-roll 71 maps until I get a Maze?
Spoiler
A chiseled and chaos-rolled Mazed 71 map will cost you 13 chaos on average
A non-mazed 71 map will cost you 5 chaos on average Then: 5 mazed 71 maps will cost you 65 chaos on average and deliver 1700% 13 non-mazed 71 maps will cost you 65 chaos on average and deliver 1950% Collolary: The results above hold for all maps from 66-71. Proof: left to the reader. Further research A) Is alt-regaling 71 Mazes profitable? I think so but I'm not sure. I lack hard data on alt-rolling a Maze. Same question for lower maps. B) Is chaos-Mazing 72s profitable? I think so for Waste and Torture, but not for Mine (assumption 3 does not hold for Mines). 72 prices are swinging between 7 and 10 chaos, which makes the above calculations meaningless. C) Is chiseling 72s profitable? I think yes if you also Maze it, no otherwise. Same reason as B). D) How about 73s and up? Simple calculations show that chiseling and Mazing these maps is better than buying additional 73s and up. " Setting aside that this map benefits greatly from Labyrinthine mod, comparing the two without; I'd much rather a map where monsters dropped 1.74 times normal loot and maps, than a map where monsters dropped 1.92 times normal loot and maps. WHEN, the former has a monster pack size multiplier of 1.37 AND a 'number of rare monsters' multiplier of 1.48. Casually casual. Last edited by TheAnuhart#4741 on Aug 20, 2013, 6:47:58 AM
