SSF should be different, not punishing

Can you link where they've said this?
I think a no merge but enhanced droprate SSF would be extremely popular however I can't see them doing it, maybe if they were really desperate but aside from that I think their core design philosophy doesn't allow it.

But what's the point... Like, the actual point in SSF in that case.

SSF league existence is already ridiculous, people need GGG to hold their hand in not trading like it's such a hard thing to not do on your own accord...

To then choose to enter it and expect the game to be easier...
What...
The actual point as per their design philosophy is to give an identical experience with a restriction, this ensures that only players who really want the restriction choose the mode.

I realise that sounds kinda silly from a player perspective but its an important one to them, the only modifiers we as players are allowed to branch off are negative.

Edit: to answer your specific point :p. Players expect very customisable difficulty these days and for some it would give a preferred experience. Its pretty clear that many players despise trade but honestly I think they should just play SSF anyway it really isn't so bad once you lose the expectation of being able to buy 300 gilded scarabs at once and just run what you got instead.

TLDR: SSF forces new decisions that are interesting and different from those in softcore. But SSF is balanced around the presence of trade (because same balance as trade league), making it much more punishing than trade league, turning away many (especially casual) players.

SSF is not designed for casual players.

SSF is there to provide HARDER content, not easier, and it then 'rewards' the players playing SSF with bragging rights as it is more of an achievement to get to L100 (for example) in SSF than in trade leagues.

It would be impossible for GGG to provide an easier experience for some players. Not only would it fragment the player base into two economies, but it would also mean that GGG would have to balance TWO games instead of one.

The normal leagues (or Standard) ARE the 'easy' content you're asking for. Everything else is by definition harder.
even in ssf the game is a joke in the current state difficulty wise. you dont need to make it even more easy

inquis righteous fire, necro detonate dead, zerker lightning strike out of your first 4 chars. have you considered you know, not playing the best of the best builds ? you know, making your own harder version of the game ? Because you sound like someone that plays on easy mode and complains it s too easy.

Those are old stories, that have been mentioned by Chris more than once in different media, so I don't have a link for you I'm afraid (although it should be possible to find one).

They want player to play the game they intend it to be played : trading items with one another.
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

I mean... OP is playing the game on a harder version (SSF) and complaining that it's hard/punishing in a way no?

In SSF, if you want farm for fun builds, you will most likely lean towards a meta starter (at least) so you can farm items for a more non-meta build.

It's almost guaranteed in SSF that you'll have more than one character and some niche char (mapping/bossing/heist, etc).

The intention of SSF is not a safe-haven for those that hate trading, it's meant to be for players that want to find their own items without going to poe amazon and just buying their upgrades.

It's a different play style, not one that's meant to be easier.
i enjoy ssf cause of more content i have to engage with. currently its super easy to get a strong character going since crafting is ina solid spot
