Projectile speed allows you to kill offscreen monsters as the sparks disappear after a certain amount of time and therefor have a range that you extend. Cast speed directly influences your dps as that is the speed at which your totems cast new sparks.

Cast speed is vastly superior. If you ever need projectile speed, a quality spark gem offers that already.

Ok, jumped through hoops to upgrade my low moonsorrow with this and hoping it would be a good one.

meh, dps only went up 10 losy points...omfg.

Why cant they make it like d3 where you can see an item and compare on the tooltip??!!!

The absolute lowest Moonsorrow is still 65% increased (assuming lightning) damage. You're new one is 54% with 8% more cast speed and 23% crit multiplier. The 8% speed and multiplier isn't going to make up for that other 11% damage with much to spare -- you should be able to compare those pretty easily.

And again, that's if your Moonsorrow was the absolute lowest possible on all 3 rolls.

I bought it after doing a bit of light research and finding this post detailing what was thought was best for a sporker vs power siphon on a site we cant name here (bunch of asshats anyways, lol).

In light of not having any real theorycrafting references related to poe, or none I can find, and not knowing the math behind mechanics used in game, I had only this to really go by, but obviously its flawed.

----------------
quote from that thread describing what stats are best for a sporker:

actual priority is Cast speed> Crit > crit multi > spell damage/Lightning damage (due to low spark damage effectiveness gains only 50% of spell damage bonus)
STATS
STR(used as a filler for gems for ES based characters)

INT (most important stat for energy shield based characters
5 points of INT grants 1% increased maximum energy shield
lets say you got that nice 1000 ES + 50 int chest. this item alone will have effectively 1100 ES and the passive %ES applies even further
also gives mana points at rate 2 mana per 1 int point (mana in exchange increases you mana regen. base is 1.75% maximum mana per second without modifiers)

DEX (used as a filler for spark builds allowing to level up green gems / Grants ACCURACY for power siphon(which is physical attack) builds and evasion etc)
the stats on gear youll be looking for are: (resists are quite self explainatory and youll have purity aura)

SPARK
wand
#1 high spell damage+cast speed
#2 or good mix of spell damage crit and cast speed
shield
#high energy shield + crit/spell damage int/mana/manaregen are also nice touch
gloves
for gloves you can either aim at:
dps spork -> maligaros virtuosity providing you ton of crit and up to 30 dex which is hard to come by as sporker(those are great too on power siphon characters)
mf spork -> auresizes - great mf and res for cheap price
balanced mf+defence gloves with high mf and high energy shield + maybe some res
###FLAT ELEMENTAL damage like bonus 1-27 lightning damage on gear does not add to spells only to attacks(spark is spell / power siphon is attack)###
RINGS:
#1 cast speed -> STATS(depending on gem requirements etc but int is always nice) -> mana / energy shield / mana regen / resist whatever you need
Helm/boots Move speed ES RES STATS MF
NECK
this one is tricky you can either use eye of chayula for no stun passive or get proper necklace with CAST SPEED > SPELL DMG / STATS / CRIT / %ES / whatever else useful stats you come by

SPELL DAMAGE SCALING
spell damage on gear is additive lets say your spark does 1000dps with 100%(not counting cast and passives etc) additional spell damage it will do 2000 and shield with 100% spell will do 3000
thats pretty straightforward BUT
if you decide to run on lowlife with righteous fire and Pain attunement you get 2 multiplicative spell damage bonuses
righteous fire gives 100% more spell damage so instead of adding another 100% to your base spark dps making it 1000+1000+1000+1000- 4k it will multiply instead your 3k dps from previous line by 100% putting you at 3000x200% so 6k!!! dps. Same thing applies to pain attunement.

...

Is it still viable to follow this tree especially early to mid game? Or is there a better path/guide?

nvm...noticed another thread about an updated version.

Godfeast you could have just read the last few pages of this topic where I explained what to upgrade. This whole topic has some very interesting hints, that's all I will say.

Getting closer.

THE SKY IS FALLING THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!

Damn, they rushed that patch out.

:(

The gem setup for the new patch. Fine, you don't need 20/20 rm gems but you get the gist. :p

I'm at 3.8k dps now, had to drop 3 crit nodes to get EA again and obviously dropped haste. Will see if a lvl20 vitality gem can change that, to get above 4k again.

Wondering how is fine , i'm using eye of chayula and i have 522 life to reserve aura's on.all my gems are level 19-20 i even took the 10% reduce mana reservation and still can't run discipline + any 40% aura on life need like 20+ life to make it possible. :( damn it carrying around covennant to be able to farm.

Skip vitality. Run 3 auras total: disc off life, purity and clarity off mana. Make sure you grabbed enough mana nodes and got some mana regen. Oh and run Springleaf.
