Anybody Catch Anything Good Yet?

Please don't force us to fish in order to optimize our characters. I hate fishing in games; tried for 15 minutes to get the quest eel before shutting the game off and reading a book instead. If there isn't some other way to get the merman's quest reward - preferably one I can complete by stabbing things - it's going to seriously discourage me from playing at release.

+1

Can't get the eel either. And trust me, I tried.. a lot.

I like the fishing side-quests, but I find there's really is too much of a 'luck' element. And, well... I'm probably the most unlucky guy on earth.

Suggestion:

Could we have a specific mod for fishing, such as a +IFL (Improve fish level) or a +IFQ (Increase fish quantity)?

Or... wait, I've just come across an interesting idea...

Anyone tried the +IR and +IQ gems on fishing rods, to see if it works ?

Yes, I'm french.

Hey guys,

Since a lot of you complained about the old background image on the fishing slider bar, I've updated it with a newer version. Please give me some constructive feedback.

I tried to make it a little bit more accessible and easier to understand so that a new player like "Gear" can get into it faster:

Second post, but while I'm here, might as well give some feedback... (I'm usually too lazy to do this on forum, must make more effort^^)

I got one of these "multifish" opportunities, when you got more than one fish icon on the bar. I had 2 fish icons that were so close they were overlapping, with a weird graphic bug... The icons were near the left hand side of the bar, and there was a third one the mid-right hand side.

Ofc, being the useless frenchman that I am, I totally forgot to print-screen it, I clicked first, and thought about the bug, and reporting it, after... =__=

However, I got the /debug thingy if you want it. Let me know.

Oh, and gratz... It's fun. Flawed imho with all that luck involved, but very fun nonetheless :)

Damn you guys are so convincing I sometimes forget

that I'm really lucky and I get a lot of fish, like, really a lot. Barely at the hole for 5 minutes and a few Speckled Tastyfish just jumped my way

I wouldn't worry about it. The time spent fishing could be just as easily spent fighting and gaining levels and gear. It's just meant to be a fun side game to enjoy if the hack and slash ever gets boring. The stat bonuses are minimal (Less than 1% with diminishing returns, to a cap) and you'd have to fish for days for it to really cash out. There's definitely rewards for putting in the time, but you shouldn't feel obligated.

Not to mention I'm sure that once fishermen cap out they'll be happy to sell their leftover Snagglers and Starfish. They'll do the work for you! ;)

Blast fishing or dynamite fishing is the practice of using explosives to stun or kill schools of fish for easy collection. This often illegal practice can be extremely destructive to the surrounding ecosystem, as the explosion often destroys the underlying habitat (such as coral reefs) that supports the fish.[1] The frequently improvised nature of the explosives used also means danger for the fishermen as well, with accidents and injuries

Finally, right after my post, I caught something of interest in HC normal: "Baby Shark".

The NPC gave me this for it:

Still trying to get that damned eel though :(

And wrt to my last post concerning +IR and/or +IQ on rods, anyone know if they have any effect on fish quantity/level?

Or am I just uselessly hoping?

I suggest you play a marauder. They have early access to a skill that allows you to 'fish' with a mace, claw, or staff. The fishing mechanic is still pretty similar but I think it'll be more to your taste.

There is also a unique strength claw weapon called ' Blackbear Paw'. It gives increased fish quality and increased catch threshold. I would suggest wearing two. The bonus is very apparent and makes fishing a breeze at lower levels. Probably a bit OP at the moment.
