gc 1 doesn't work in act 2

Does gc 2 work in act 2? :D

no tried LOL

I wonder what gc 1 means then. I figured it meant game content 1. So if you put gc 2 it would make sense. Any fix for this yet?

1. delete"-gc 1".
2. refresh wine. 3. testrun. 4. exit the game. 5. type "-gc 1" again. 6. refresh again. 7. testrun. 8. play the game. it will temporarily make the game playable again. Last edited by BjornenSjover#1751 on Aug 11, 2012, 7:36:22 AM

gc means anything but game contents, more like graphics control
What it really seems it does, it changes way how the graphics is loaded, smaller gc value will result in longer loading times, but also in delaying graphical issues. Without the gc value it seems the graphic is loaded as needed during gameplay, but this is also causing the glitches, because the wine sometimes load them badly. The gc 1 value made the graphics preload only for the instance you are entering, so there is far less chance for glitches. Also its "-gc 1" not "gc 1". For the searching the fix on the wine side, I would need to find a really fast way how to reproduce the glitches (of course with deleted "gc" option - if any one know how, let me know, I will then collect advanced debug logs and create the ticket at wine. Also, there seems to be a huge memory leak. This is maybe related to graphic glitches, maybe not. But personally I think that people with less RAM and smaller GPU VRAM size will encounter the glitches sooner then others. Last edited by julus#1066 on Aug 11, 2012, 7:28:26 AM

Game seems unplayable in act 2 :(
Either I get a couple of minutes to play, before I see the first special mob that starts glitching my video, or I just crash after leaving town.. I keep getting this weird timezone error in my log... |

" I made it to the end of act 2 with my wrapper, with only one glitch-crash at the final dungeon... Which wrapper you are using and what's your configuration? |

"gc" probably means "graphics cache" as it is supposed to control the amount of memory used for graphics. The parameter is mentioned in the known bugs section of the client.
Actually I can only say again that the graphics problem is not wine / mac specific! I have it under parallels 7 in windows and my friend on his pretty high level gaming system on native windows too. This also causes crashes on windows systems whereas the mac tends to shows more garbage in that case. Is also a bit of a "luck" thing. You may need to reboot your mac cleanly and play without using other software to maximize the graphics memory available. I found that "--nosound" (strangely) also affects this. You can try to use it instead of "-gc 1" or together with it. But you will miss the sound. The other (maybe most stable) solution I found is using "orm=backbuffer" and disable shadows (important... if you do not disable them the lighting is not working at all). That worked for me with all wrappers but is (well) without shadows. |
