Experiences from Path of Exile so far

Sounds amazing. I'm so jealous that you're in the alpha testing!
I would hang a man to be in this alpha. Many a day has past since Mythos was at all entertaining. Keep up the good work!!!

(and invite to the beta while your at it :)

I know how you feel. I'm in the Grim Dawn alpha + beta, but that's still several months away, and the Hellgate closed beta was too short to be anything but a server stress test. I think I'm more excited about POE than any other game right now. It looks to be the next great action RPG.

With so many game series being changed in negative ways (Diablo, X-Com, Call of Duty), and game prices jumping up to 60$ a pop, its amazing to see a company creating a product that delivers on content, implements innovation on top of tried and true gameplay mechanics, and keeps the customers in mind. Oh, and its free, and the content in the micro-transaction store won't be a "pay to win" scenario. And if GGG truly continues updating the game and adding content for a decade to come, then how can it get any better?
Dubbing PoE as the next great "action-rpg" says a lot. To those who don't know, there hasn't been a good aRPG in over 10 years. The attempts (sacred 2, [others I cant quite think of at the moment]) have always been sup par. Ever since the release of Diablo 2 and the introduction of Battle.net game designers have been striving for the same loot grubbing, party snatching action. It is hard enough as it is, without the threats of Diablo 3 looming over. I feel like Exile will give this long uncared for genre a few more years.
I think small and big things alike hold back most action RPG's. Sacred pissed me off because the character would stop and bend down to pick up every item, and it slowed the game a lot for me. Titan Quest came close, especially with the skill system, but the quests and levels felt repetitive. Hellgate: London was a bug-riddled mess.
Small things do bring about tumultuous results. Think of gender lock, loot rate, experience rate; all of which can make or break a popular game. With the amount of mmorpg's out there right now, we get a very thorough look at how such decisions can change the play ability of a game. I have much faith in the GGG team to make something we shall not soon forget. A word of advice-- check out other games that are popular now, see what makes them click.
I always like seeing game testers who really put everything into it.
