I also didn't like how high level people were camping the start of some instances, after making the mistake of joining an instance without looking who it was, i always had to check to join an empty instance.

If you just click normally on an instance entrance or waypoint, a new instance will be created, which is guaranteed to be empty...

On the other hand, if you have nothing, even to go for the mud flats to get anything to equip isnt easy - not against the monsters and even less against others...

One possibility is to scavenge other players' empty low-mid level instances.

I kinda wish they kept the timer for trying to switch zones. Seems like without this its too easy to run or exit game at any sign of trouble. This will also keep players from alt+tabbing out to keep form dieing.

What does alt-tab do? Or did you mean Alt+F4?

People would do that, and then entrance campers would see you made a new instance and instantly rush you before you even moved far from the entrance. There was no way around it, it was just luck if you managed to get past the terraces past halfway-game and you were certain death in mudflat's waypoint campers.

lol, was impossible. The campers would see your alone and in the low area's they would find you quickly and kill you with ease long before you found anything of worth. Let alone equipted it. And if you invaded someone else's instance to find leftover stuff?, they would turn and kill you with ease.

after half-time in cut-throat the game was pointless for killed players or new comer's.

How many people actually took part in the race and how many of those even made it past level 10?
I'm BACK :)
Would say around ~130-150 made it to lvl 10, top 100 ended about 80% into lvl 11.

Regarding the freezing situation, I'd like to remind everyone of Diablo 2's solution: merely make 'cannot be frozen' a pvp standard. Arctic Blast, I think it was, could literally turn a mob into ice, but it would never do anything more than 'chill' another player.

I'm not saying this is a good solution here, just that it seemed to work there. It's much like the level 2 'hold person' spell from D&D, not to mention 'sleep' at only level 1: contextually, both could be incredibly overpowered.

Anything that completely immobilises someone can be considered very difficult to balance. It's one thing to freeze a monster in a group of, say, twenty, and another altogether to freeze the one enemy trying to kill you.

re: reaching level 10. I was in the first two leagues from the start, made it to level 8 the first time, level 11 the second. Had I started from the start in a 3 hour league, I've no doubt I could have reached 10. Easy. There's not THAT much player-slaughter going on in the first stretch. Everyone's a bit busy getting a foothold. My partner (who did very well this time) just kept moving. We're not 'PvPers' per se, just very avid PvEers who enjoy this added dimension. If you keep moving, you can outpace quite a few other players, many of whom look back for easier kills (Thrukk, for example -- nothing wrong there, just recalling that he was the first come after my level 3 ass near the end of the league).

The only big mistake I think we made was using Fetid and Tidal. Just because they have no WP does not make them safe. ;)

Completely removing the freeze seems a little too harsh and would make certain passes that increase the chance of these effects and those that reduce the chance of these effects worthless. Maybe just a set of diminishing returns on full freezing effects.

Oh, I agree. Just saying that was the former 'most effective' method.

It'll be interesting to see how GGG handles it.

I've been spoiled too much this weekend, I only want to play cut-throat now, I've been sitting in the middle of town debating playing HC for the last few hours but spent the majority of it on here debating CT.

There are already solutions to the freezing issue that don't require having a 'cannot be frozen' piece of equipment. Aren't there flasks that unfreeze you?

I kept flask of thawing, but after using it was refrozen before being able to move more than a step or two, they just don't last long enough to allow you to do anything.
