" Is there a specific reason why all the "DoT" effects are degenerative non-damage buffs instead of 'ticking' damage over time effects? Would changing that solve this problem? Would that even be an option that would work with the PoE engine, etc? Genuinely curious. |

" DoT based builds should be specifically penalized by being unable to use these gems? That's silly. I play a pyro/necro witch. Many bosses and difficult enemies where I want IIQ are on fire when they die. The trade-off is already built into the gem with increased mana cost for the IIR/IIQ skill and the fact that it uses a support slot where you could have put a combat-relevant gem instead. If I pay the mana cost from the support gem on all my fireball casts, the IIR/IIQ needs to apply to all the fireball damage, including the burn. It's not as if I'm getting all that burning damage for free - I've spent passives on burn chance/damage and am using extra mana for the burn support gem. Supporting a separate killing-blow skill with IIR/IIQ should be a strategic decision, like mana conservation or socket setup. Is it only the support: Chance to Ignite that won't work or is any burning damage dangerous therefore eliminating fire damage from effective magic find builds?

" I understood it as burning damage, not just from the chance to ignite support gem but an burning damage. In essence this makes sense because it's not the skill itself killing the mob but the burning, and you have no control over the burning itself. |

Here is something interesting to item quantity/rarity... Quantity mostly.
Let us discuss multiboxing for a moment; just for a solid example. In a 6 player game, item quantity is increased by 250%, making the total item quantity 350% (100% being the base). If the player doing all of the killing has 200% increased quantity; then there will be a total of 1050% item quantity for that instance. In single player terms (5 non contributing allies) content takes 250% longer to kill (monster have 350% of their normal HP) With no IIQ, the ratio is balanced. With that 200% IIQ; and content taking 2.5x longer to clear (a total of 3.5X the base time) a player is left with 300% IIQ (when comparing time spent to content cleared). For general efficiency purposes, if you are stacking IIQ, multiboxing is 50% more productive at 200% IIQ. Higher IIQ increases production. |
