Is the in-game camera/ POV fixed?

From the videos I have seen so far, the camera does seem to be a bit too close for my tastes, and that always feels a bit restrictive and frustrating for me, which in turn has an impact on how immersed I can get in a game.
I'm just about to fire up Titan Quest again, I don't remember being too upset with the camera distance in that game, but it's been a while. |

Kosi: Ranged characters really don't have a problem in PvP, even though they can only target players on their screen (unless they shift-attack to fire in a specific direction). We don't have any instant teleportation skills currently, so PvP matches generally involve both characters being on the same screen. This is something we'll continue to keep an eye on as we add more skills and options. If it's a problem, we'll find a solution.
Witterquick: We've experimented with various distances and really like this one. Hopefully you'll get a chance to try it out in the beta and will let us know if you find it immersive enough :) | |
We'll see Chris. ;)
As always on certain aspects of the game's development it's will be impossible for you to keep everyone 100% happy, but it seems you chaps have been making good decisions on the gameplay/style of PoE so far. |

Forgive me, I'm a bit of a noob to the community here. I don't mean to raise up a thread that's been idle for so long but I didn't think this little question was enough to warrant a whole new thread, and it sort of relates to the conversation in previous post.
I noticed that zooming out won't be an option, but it was mentioned earlier that zooming in closer might be added. I was wondering if it has been decided if the camera will indeed zoom in? The reason I ask is that in games like Torchlight, and Diablo etc. you often have a great deal of items on the ground in a small area. I was thinking it might save having to pick up the items you don't want if you could zoom in and differentiate a bit better the items which you don't want to bother picking up, and items you do want to pick up. I would rather zoom in pick up what I want, over picking up everything in the little area then going into the inventory and dropping the things I don't want. It's REALLY a minor thing, but I was curious about it. "I would have listened... I would have understood!" - Scion
Have you removed Asus ROG/GameFirst yet? |

" This really isn't an issue. It's pretty easy to differentiate the items and their names. They just don't have the item names displayed when making the videos so you can get a better look at the game. I am a poor freezingly cold soul
So far from where I intended to go |

Okay.
Sorry if it's already been answered before. My search-fu may be a bit rusty. "I would have listened... I would have understood!" - Scion

I agree that fixed camera's in a ARPG seem to do just fine. I have no issues at all with this method.

The biggest issue I have is not so much freedom of the user, but fairness.
What are you doing to do with regards to different aspect ratios, and zoom hacks? aspect ratio is obviously an extremely easy modification, and zoom hacks are hard, but not too problematic to make. For aspect ratio, I hope that the area the camera shows always remains the same — a extra-wide monitor will have much of the top and bottom area normally visible "cropped" (not wasted black space, but just not visible) For zoom hack, there's not much one can to do make it fair other than granting everyone the ability.
