Hatred
Xapti (if I'm understanding his post right - I am quite tired right now) is on the right track. adding a percentage of physical damage as cold absolutely does not take final physical damage, take a percentage of that, and then apply all your cold/elemental increases tot hat - that would be turning additive increases to multiplicative ones, and would be completely broken.
Adds X% of physical damage as cold damage works just like all the other damage conversion skills int he game (added fire damage gem, AoF, cold to fire support, etc). X% of your base physical damage is added as cold damage. That damage, since it was 'converted' from physical damage, is affected by both physical and cold/elemental damage increases. Short example: 100 base physical damage aura adds 20% of physical damage as cold 10% elemental damage increase 20% physical damage increase 15% cold damage increase You get 100 physical damage increased by 20%, for 120 physical, and 20 cold damage (from physical) which is increased by 45% (10 + 20 + 15) for 29 cold damage. I understand now, thanks for clarifying. I think the gem is fairly balanced as it is right now.

" True but you didn't list the more confusing ones like Lightning Arrow ;) . -Lightning arrow convertes 50% of your +physical damage -hatred deals 20% of your physical damage as cold damage The result is: You deal 20% of 100% physical damage as cold damage You deal 50% physical damage with lightning arrow YOu deal 50% lightning damage with lightning arrow Last edited by overpowdered#4125 on Mar 31, 2012, 6:43:52 PM

Anger, Hatred and Wrath now count as fire, cold and lightning gems, respectively. This will go through to beta in an upcoming patch.

I feel the aoe of these auras is very limiting. These are obviously prime candidates for the AoE increase support gems, but still. It almost doesnt seem like an aura without it, and the 3% increase per level as well as the quality aoe increase dont really change that. (At least that's the feeling I get as a range character). I would prefer weaker versions with larger AoEs, but maybe that's just me.
Also, in the "Life on Hit" support gem thread, someone mentioned supporting the aura with that gem would cause every hit to steal life. Can anyone confirm that? If yes, is that intended? |

"That does not happen. Life on hit only gains you life if the supported skill deals damage. Auras never deal damage. | |
Used Hatred as passive on my 2-H Marauder till i got Blood Magic.
Dps development: 4 out of 5 stars. The added Damage was always welcome and i literally felt it. Useability/dynamic: 2 out of 5 stars. Once i got Blood Magic because my Mana Household was unbearable as 2-Hand Marauder, i had to leave Hatred behind. 30% lesser Life, don't have to explain myself here. I would use it to farm lower level Areas though. Ressource cost: 2 out of 5 see above. Fun factor: 3,5 out of 5 Still a decent push in the DPS department and a great debuff on enemies when hit. |

i didn't get my bow marader to a high level yet but from using the skill, it adds roughly 15 dps to all skills i use at my low level 22.
when i gotten blood magic, everything was sorta fine till i noticed i wasn't getting enough out of it to compensate the 30% hp "cost". i can predict it to be better later on thanks to the progression of it (+2%/level). i won't(/can't?) use it as is on a low level character regardless of the boost at the moment for most non melee element boosting builds. i might turn it back on around lv 50 as a player when the skill itself is equal in cost and boost (lv 10 gem or close to that). based on experience, almost every aura should halve or 2/3rds (ie -1/3) its reserve when dealing with life in order for them to be less... lethal. everything else seems fine from playthrough. sorry if this "review" is rendered void at higher levels as i predict it will be. edit reason: grammar and clarity) Last edited by soul4hdwn#0698 on Apr 3, 2012, 10:20:09 PM

What happens if I use this skill along with Avatar of Fire?
Both convert a percentage of physical damage to elemental damage, and combined they reach more than 100% - but can the end result after "converting" be more than the initial amount? So, is it: 100 Physical -> 80 Fire + 20 Cold (part of AoF negated) or 100 Physical -> 100 Fire (Hatred negated) or 100 Physical -> 100 Fire + 20 Cold (total damage going up) or something else entirely? "Avatar of fire allows all other conversion to take place first, then converts all remaining physical damage. |
