MORE BLOOD
More more blood baby

hi there,
first of i got to admit that i´m not yet among the lucky folks able to test the beta, thus my opinion is that of a bystander one might say. yet it is still an opinion and i´d like to share it. so far every impression i had from the game is based on videos and screenshots. what really caught my attention about path of exile is it´s mature and dark atmosphere, combined with a rather realistic look instead of beeing cartoonish. and while this greatly appeals to me, there is something odd about the usage of blood. blood and gore can be a great medium of inducing all kinds of intense emotions. fear, disgust, tension, curiosity to name a few. but only if it´s presented in a believable fashion, neither to little, nor over the top. the more you overuse blood the more it loses its importance. the splatterhouse installment would serve as a good example for that. fun for about 2-3 hours, but once you´ve seen every gory cutscene and literally waded through gallons of red sauce, it soon becomes boring. if used in quantity AND the right way however it can create a wonderfully immersive atmosphere and a feeling of ominous tension. since whatever tore this poor guy apart is still out there lurking for me. and thus i begin to further identify with my avatar on screen, since when theres a feedback of danger from the game i usually care about its/my wellbeing and immersion is achieved. however if my enemy for example is sputtering gallons of red stuff without any noticable effect on his health or his appearance, then there is clearly no need to react at virtual blood as an indicator of danger at all. so far i´ve seen to little blood to be of any importance atmosphere-wise, so i´d say it´s okay to add some environmental blood as well as increase the enemies "output". what would also make for a great addition would be some "damage-textures" in order to actually see the state of detriment the creature is in. simple letting a mob bleed doesn´t make me feel of having the right approach on slaying him, less so if the weapon itself seems to have little effect/response. thanks for following this collection of lose ideas, hopefully they find some appeal. regards tjolnir |

Posted this on another brutality thread :P
I think the game needs some dismemberment, like critical strikes causing decapitations or limbs being lopped off. Since the death animations seem to be just the enemies falling down i think this would be a nice change from time to time. From what i've seen in the vids on youtube when enemies 'splode there needs to be more blood splatter and gibs. But this is probably just nit-picking, and i haven't actually played it yet to see what the field looks like after destroying everything and everyone :P Anyway, dismemberment pl0x \m/

" this +1 too! *applauds* From dusk to dawn they fall in my traps,
monsters all dying and taking dirt naps. At last I emerge with narry a scratch, scrounging the field for any small catch. A bauble? A jewel? A small golden ring? A unique item would make my heart sing! |

I would like new death animations dependent on weapon you use.
For instant i think it would be cool that if you kill human or zombie with sword his head is cut off and flying down with trail of blood behind , or with hammer his head is smashed into pieces and with axe its splinted into two and with bow he falls down with arrow in his eye spraying blood or something like that ? Also when minions explode they leave there parts on the ground like they are taken frozen with no blood , please add blood to those animations , you have some very nice blood trails and blood pools you dont use them enough. " Would the dismemberment happen all the time? Or would it be a random occurrence? I think if it was every swing thatd be repetitive but some kind of new death animations would be nice :) |

" Lets say ... when you kill it with critical strike :) Last edited by Stormscion#3320 on May 25, 2012, 11:00:26 AM
