Tencent has Invested in Grinding Gear Games

You really do not understand how this works. Tencent owns controlling interest now. They can change any agreement, any time they like for any reason or no reason. They are effectively asking themselves if they would like to change their negotiated terms with themselves. And then voting on it with their 80% control of the company.

If any GGG staff try to interfere, they can and will be cut loose the same way you've seen happen almost 100 times in the last 25 years of developer acquisition.

I have read most of the posts to here. As a few others mentioned but didn't name, the self-fulfilling prophecy of the decline of the game is possibly going to start.
This is basically my concern. Have seen backlash to a thing do more damage than the thing so many times. Would hate to poke PoE along the same road.

Well guess you don't need to sell Supporter packs anymore, and I probably won't be buying any.

We can all pray this turns out okay like Digital Extremes and Warframe, but then again they were bought by a Chinese agricultural company (who actually kept their promise of non-interference) not Tencent.

We will remain an independent company

This must be a joke. I cant see any adult person can believe in this.
How can you be independent if you 80% of you were bought?!
I mean if I posess some thing, I can do with it anything I want, and that thing is not independent, that is the definition of posession.

What are the exact mechanisms that will prevent them interfering? "Because they promised", LOOOOL.
dead game
bring back 3.13
I hope you make the right decision Chris...

No they can't change any agreement, you are confusing this with some corporation structure control execution, scenarios like in movies aren't the case here...

GGG, is private limited company as such they may have any sort of inside rules like for example:

In order to change the management of the company a majority of 90% is required. Literally tencent could own 80% of stake and have no say on any management decisions. It all depends on company rules and agreements between owners of the company.

Please tell me that this is New Zealand's corresponding of April's fools day.. I've just bought my second support pack because i wanted to support an INDIPENDENT team, and now instead of reading news about development, I read this? That's pretty disappointing, to say the least.

What I don't get is, how, from now on, can you expect us to give you other money, knowing that you already have got a lot from Tencent to fund your development?

Before Tencent:

Indie company GGG needs money for development? Players give money to help funding development (most probably not covering 100% of the costs, that's pretty normal)

After Tencent:

Tencent's company GGG needs money for development? They already got a shit ton from Tencent, why would players give other money to help funding development?

Removing the "indie" part seems a small change, but instead it represents the reason that was convincing a big chunk of people to willingly give you money. At least that is my reason that made me invest like 3 hundreds in one single game, but I suspect that is the same for many others.
Maybe my dream of weeb cosmetics will finally come true.

School girl witch outfit when?
